Salsa...gotta LUV it.

I think most EVERYbody loves SALSA....and I think you don't even HAVE to be born and bred in the
LONE STAR STATE OF TEXAS.....:>) to love it.

Mr. Sweet likes PACE MILD SALSA
but I don't.

I haven't found a store-bought brand that I like.

When I want SALSA....
I want HOMEMADE.

Out here in West Texas, it's almost a LAW that you serve SALSA at a party.
Yes, ma'am....

Any salsa should be served along with a bottomless bowl of salty chips....
tortilla chips...
not Potato chips...
not crackers...
not even FRITOS....no sir ree.....

The above green Guacamole Chips are PERFECT..
and a little Sour Cream doesn't hurt one thing, either.

We have a delicious recipe from a very good friend, BARBARA, that
is our favorite on the planet.

BARB'S SALSA
3 tsp Japaleno Peppers (fresh or can use pickled slices in a jar)
1 lg. can whole tomatoes (mostly drained) or crushed (if you like a tomatoey sauce)
1/2 of a large onion, chopped.. (you can use dried minced onion)
1-2 cloves fresh garlic (or 1/2 tsp. minced garlic in a jar)
2 cups chopped fresh cilantro
The following spices to taste:
1 tsp salt
pepper to taste
garlic salt
garlic powder
seasoned salt
*********************************
Chop peppers in a food processor or by hand and use a mixer.
Add tomatoes, with most of the liquid drained off and blend again.
Then add onion, garlic, cilantro and spices to taste and blend again.
Adjust seasonings, if necessary.

Honey sent this recipe of her homemade SALSA

Hi BJ!

My salsa recipe is so easy and everyone loves it!  I use canned tomatoes because I don't really like tomatoes and I like my salsa more juicy than chunky (but I love salsa-go figure!)

1 large can of crushed tomatoes
1 small can of petite diced tomatoes (or any combination of tomatoes)
1 onion diced
1-2 diced jalapenos, seeds and all depending on how hot you like it
1 bunch cilantro
2 splashes of lemon or lime juice
a good amount of salt

Mix it all together and salt to taste.  The best chips to eat with this salsa are Juanitas.  I hope you make it and love it!
hugs, bj

  1. I want some salsa now... Sounds so yummy! Did you make any salsa? It's so addicting and definitely the best party food there is no matter what state you're from!

  7. Oh we do love our salsa and home made is so darn good. We always judge a Mexican Restaurant by their salsa. Barb's and Honey's salsa look like they have the perfect ingredients!

  8. I love salsa and I'm not even from Texas, although I lived there for about 10 months once a long time ago. I make salsa, too, by the quart when tomatoes are fresh in the fall and then we eat it all year long. Yum! I love it with chips and also eat it for breakfast on my eggs. Some yummy sounding recipes here. Homemade is best.

  13. The salsa sounds yummy,. and I quickly learned that you must have salsa at least as an appetizer in Texas. I still buy the mild to medium "hot" salsa, but need to try to make it myself.

  24. Sorry, but I'm with your hubby. I love that mild brand of salsa. I do not like cilantro, it tastes like soap to me. However..your chips look very yummy, me and chips have a love connection going on...lol

  25. Love a good mild, chunky salsa with not a lot of cilantro, and white corn chips, but have to watch my intake due to the salty chips. I am another one that thinks cilantro tastes like soap. :b
    Enjoy the weekend.
