HAPPIEST MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL...
Mother's
Day is a modern celebration honoring one's own mother, as well as
motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society.
My mama, HELEN FREDERICK JACKSON at 17.
What a beauty.
FREDERICK, left for World War 1
and my Grandmother Emma told him,
"No matter if this baby is a boy or girl...I will name it FREDERICK....
and she did, indeed.
Sometimes, to tease my mama, we'd call her FREDDIE
and she'd pretend it made her mad...
(she never could turn her head away
fast enuf
to hide the smile that made her face light up...)
EMMA died when my mother was only 8 years old....
EMMA was in her 30's when she became ill with tuberculosis and passed away...
I am so sorry I didn't get to be with her, growing up....my dad's mother also passed before I was born.

My mother, "Freddie" was a ROSIE, THE RIVETER, during WW2...
Either of these ladies working in an airplane factory could have been my mama.
I was too little to remember how she looked during that time but she told me all the ladies wore scarves around their hair, probably for safety reasons.
**
How cool it would be if I could have a picture of her,
working in that airplane factory..
.but I don't....
so I am claiming the woman on our left (above) as my mama....LOL
just look at her using that rivet gun......
my daughter in law, KATHY,
my granddaughters, JESSICA & MICAH
a Happy Mother's Day.
Happiest Mother's Day to
ALL mothers, present and past.
ALL mothers, present and past.
Your mother sounds like quite a woman, bj! I think it's great that she was named after her uncle! A very happy Mother's day to you!
ReplyDeletewonderful story of the proud women in your family. So many women back then got named for men. My Mother-In-Law's middle name is Melvina (pronounced Mel-vine-ah) and she hates it so, of course, we called her it often. Happy Mother's Day tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteOh you look like your Mom. My goodness. She is a beauty and so are you.
ReplyDeleteNice story of your Mom. Happy Mothers Day to you.
BJ, I never got to know or be with any of my grandmothers either. But I had a beautiful guardian angel , that was like a grandmother to me. My mom more than once said that Mrs. Russell was like a mom to her. I miss both of those beautiful ladies, mommy and Mrs. Russell. Wishing you a Happy Mother's Day. xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeletetough ladies. :)
ReplyDeleteTodays Mum's might have all the modern appliances, iPads, laptops, a newish car or 4WD, a job, full or part time, store bought clothes, a hairdresser visit every week or month, no home- done haircuts now, but at the start and the end of every day they are "Mum" and that is the most important job of all. We remember our Mums, how hard their lives were, but they didn't let us know any of that, as it was back then. Hugs to you for your day today.
ReplyDeleteShe was part of that greatest generation! Did she talk about those days working in the factory? Your mother was a beauty and your grandmother, too. No wonder the gals in your family are all so pretty! You have a wonderful Mother's Day being honored and honoring others.
ReplyDeleteI was so fortunate to grow up with both og my grandmothers....and two great grandmothers. My mother's grandmother died of Tuberculosis. So sad that we lost so many people from that horrible disease. Love that your mom was a Rosie! I have used that poster in the college library! My daughter had it in her dorm room at college! Shows what women can/could do!
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day to you! Sheila
The older generation looked at life different than folks today. You are a god mom that feeds her kids well.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful story. Happy Mother's Day
ReplyDeleteHow awesome that your Mom was a Rosie! What a fantastic piece of family history. Happy Mother's Day, BJ!
ReplyDeleteSweet family memories ... I had one grandmother growing up and she was still living when bill and I married and when our kids were born! They all remember her. I always felt that was a gift for all of us!
ReplyDeleteReally interesting history! Such a cool post, bj...and Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot in common, my mother was a supervisor at the Fisher Body plant in Cleveland Ohio during the war and she made B29's. I was sent to Virginia to live with my Aunt Nell so she could work during the war. I wasn't happy about leaving, but she promised me a dog if I went so I did and after the war we had a nice new home and I had a puppy, which I named Spotty.
ReplyDeleteYour mother was beautiful and I know that you loved her so much. Wish they were still around.
Have a Happy Mothers Day dear friend.
Hugs\
Mary

ReplyDeleteBJ, I always love your family stories! Here's my guess about those scarves: I think the women pin-curled their hair, put on a scarf for work, came home and brushed out their curls for the evening. Well, at least on Fridays! Your mother sounds delightful.
ReplyDeleteReally sweet !! Beautiful portraits! Health for all mothers!
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect mother's day story! I love her name and how it came to be and the photos are fabulous! What a grand tribute to wonderful women! Happy Mother's Day!
