Bread and No Jelly ???....O Dear

There's not too many foods I love better than HOT BREAD...
BUTTERED...
WITH JELLY...

But after I baked these Brown and Serve rolls this morning,
I realized  I was OUT OF JELLY...

Some mornings, gravy will do...
and some mornings, honey will work...
but not THIS morning.
...it took no time at all until those berries and water and sugar were
gently boiling... making goood stuff.
Believe me when I say this was MUCH better than jelly..

Any berries can be done this way and it's delicious...

 I learned about making a
SIMPLE SYRUP
in high school....
a long, LONG time ago.....

I've made a simple syrup flavored with maple flavoring and it is sooo good.
This is a tiny pitcher and I didn't make much..

I sliced more strawberries and poured a little of this syrup over them...
d.lic.ious.....

Fresh bread from the bakery....

*side note....

I decided to buy a little toaster oven so as not to be using my big oven for a tiny bit of food.
I love using this..makes me feel like I am saving a tiny bit of money....I don't like that I am cooking for one, now, tho. 😢
...and, if you are lucky and made just enuf of this scrumptious
fruit and syrup,
you just may have enuf in the evening to add to the toasted bread
for a "bedtime snack"....

LOVE, bj

  1. OH! That sounds so good, bj. While I love that you have a toaster oven I am sorry that you are now cooking for one. Life really is bittersweet in so many ways (my post for the day as a matter of fact). I hope you have a blessed, strawberry-kissed day! xo Diana

  4. I think your strawberry simple syrup would be great on ice cream!! :) Or pound cake!

  5. BJ, Jelly syrup...hey you may be onto something. The breakfast looked yummy. Nice little snack for later too. Cooking for one is hard to do. My sister complains about not being able to cook big meals any more since her children are grown. You cook so well, I'd come to have breakfast if I lived closer. :):) Loved the photos. Blessings, xoxo, love, Susie

  7. Canning I made simple syrup all the time. Never tried to make a small amount though.

Glad you found something to replace the missing jelly.

    God bless.

  8. Yum! I like the idea of a simple syrup and fruit. Nothing better than biscuits and jam. I may never run out of jam/jelly. My beautiful step-daughter lives in Washington and every Christmas she sends me a Chukar box .. filled with cherry everything -- jam, jelly, salsa, sauces of all kinds and chocolate. What kind of toaster oven did you get. I've been thinking about getting one. So many on the market!

  12. You are petty amazing! I wouldn’t have thought to do that! But, seriously! How can you be out of jelly?? That’s never supposed to happen! Once we run out of something we seem to stockpile until we have so much of it and then one day.....we are shocked when we’ve run out of it! And it starts all over.....

  17. What a great idea! I remember making maple syrup and have made ton's of that and yet never made another flavor. somethings wrong with me!!
A Arnold Palmer is a drink of half tea, half lemonade, it is the best of two worlds. That might seem off topic here but I thought you might like to know.

  18. Oh BJ, you are a woman after my own heart! Warm bread is my absolute favorite food! If I have to choose between a chocolate shop and a bakery, the bakery would win every time! And that jelly / syrup / topping looks absolutely delicious!

  19. Love all kinds of warm bread. Walking past a bakery nearly drives me crazy. I do not bake but sure enjoy what others share with me. It has poured rain all day. We needed it, but I may have to ask the good Lord to save a little till next summer. When growing up, my mother made the best home made bread and fresh jelly. None better.

  20. Yum-yum, BJ. I love making jelly syrup that way. Great on waffles too. I am in the market for a new toaster, but have wanted a toaster oven for a long time. Now that I am also cooking for one, I think the toaster oven would be better choice. Please let me know what kind you got and how you like it.
Thank for sharing your fresh fruit syrup ... you always make us hungry with good looking food and great pictures.
    Hugs,
    Audrey Z.

  22. Gosh, that looks good! You learned something in school that no one learns anymore. I've had to teach myself so many things. Cooking for one isn't easy on the best occasions, but especially when you're sad. I'm glad you have something that makes it easier on you.

I wish I could hug you my friend.
    love,

  23. Oh yum! A little bit of sweet with fresh bread just can't be beat. My parents, and one of our daughters and her husband, use toaster ovens in place of full sized ovens for many things. It would save some electricity, but I don't really have room on my counters in my small kitchen.

  24. Yum this looks great. I can see me having this on vanilla ice cream or panettone.

Enjoy the rest of your week

  25. I love strawberries and those look delicious!! While I love strawberry jam/jelly, I've never thought about using strawberries for rolls and breads...hmmmm, might be giving that a try when I can find some sweet strawberries again! Have a great one!

  26. I would have never thought of making simple syrup for berries. Looks so delicious! I have a notion to try it with some raspberries. I worked in the food industry for years and we used it to thin down heavy ice cream toppings. Your pictures present your strawberries and syrup so beautifully! Thanks for sharing,

  27. BJ,
    YuMMy!
I can (almost) smell those rolls baking!
LOVE that you made your own 'jelly/syrup'!
My beloved G'Ma used one of those little toaster ovens, too.
Baking for one. . .cooking for one, does have its challenges. . .
but oh, my goodness. . .the rewards !

  28. Hi, BJ. It's been awhile since I visited your blog. I had lost it plus I was away from blogging for a good while. Glad I found you again. Your pictures are always sooooo beautiful. I'm trying to write again...it had just gotten so hard for me. But I have a new attitude toward it and so far am enjoying being back with my blog. Now I'm off to catch up with yours:)

  31. That does look mouthwatering. I'm with you, you must have jelly and lots of butter when there is fresh bread. What a clever girl you are!

  32. That looks so yummy, bj! I love using my toaster oven, too, and I use it everyday. I know it's hard and sad cooking for one. I still have my one son here to share meals with, but I miss my sweetie, just like you.
