I think most EVERYbody loves SALSA....and I think you don't even HAVE to be born and bred in the
LONE STAR STATE OF TEXAS.....:>) to love it.
Mr. Sweet likes PACE MILD SALSA
but I don't.
I haven't found a store-bought brand that I like.
When I want SALSA....
I want HOMEMADE.
Out here in West Texas, it's almost a LAW that you serve SALSA at a party.
Yes, ma'am....
Any salsa should be served along with a bottomless bowl of salty chips....
tortilla chips...
not Potato chips...
not crackers...
not even FRITOS....no sir ree.....
The above green Guacamole Chips are PERFECT..
and a little Sour Cream doesn't hurt one thing, either.

We have a delicious recipe from a very good friend, BARBARA, that
is our favorite on the planet.

1 lg. can whole tomatoes (mostly drained) or crushed (if you like a tomatoey sauce)

1-2 cloves fresh garlic (or 1/2 tsp. minced garlic in a jar)
2 cups chopped fresh cilantro
The following spices to taste:
1 tsp salt
pepper to taste
garlic salt
garlic powder
seasoned salt

Chop peppers in a food processor or by hand and use a mixer.
Add tomatoes, with most of the liquid drained off and blend again.
Then add onion, garlic, cilantro and spices to taste and blend again.
Adjust seasonings, if necessary.
Honey sent this recipe of her homemade SALSA
Hi BJ!
My salsa recipe is so easy and everyone loves
it! I use canned tomatoes because I don't really like tomatoes and I
like my salsa more juicy than chunky (but I love salsa-go figure!)
1 large can of crushed tomatoes
1 small can of petite diced tomatoes (or any combination of tomatoes)
1 onion diced
1-2 diced jalapenos, seeds and all depending on how hot you like it
1 bunch cilantro
2 splashes of lemon or lime juice
a good amount of salt
hugs, bj
I want some salsa now... Sounds so yummy! Did you make any salsa? It's so addicting and definitely the best party food there is no matter what state you're from!

ReplyDeleteI want salsa now too.
ReplyDeletei don't like jar salsa either. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I am going to have try yours. This is something that we do eat here, just like Texas. xoxo Su
ReplyDeleteYum, they both look good. Will be making some soon. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw your post title I thought you meant the dance...but I do like salsa and chips as well, but sour cream, no thanks very much.

Making my mouth water bj.
ReplyDeleteOh we do love our salsa and home made is so darn good. We always judge a Mexican Restaurant by their salsa. Barb's and Honey's salsa look like they have the perfect ingredients!
ReplyDeleteI love salsa and I'm not even from Texas, although I lived there for about 10 months once a long time ago. I make salsa, too, by the quart when tomatoes are fresh in the fall and then we eat it all year long. Yum! I love it with chips and also eat it for breakfast on my eggs. Some yummy sounding recipes here. Homemade is best.
ReplyDeleteI'm in AZ, so we see always serve and see salsa at parties and holidays too. l love making fresh salsa, but I've been looking for a good recipe like we see in restaurants, so I'll have to try these. Thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDelete"Salsa - Gotta Luv It" - the dance or the sauce ; )
ReplyDeleteSounds delicious.
We make it pretty much like Honey does. Turns out perfectly every time! Gotta love a little cilantro. :)
ReplyDeleteNothing better than salsa, chips, and a large margarita! Ole'! xo
ReplyDeleteThe salsa sounds yummy,. and I quickly learned that you must have salsa at least as an appetizer in Texas. I still buy the mild to medium "hot" salsa, but need to try to make it myself.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a good recipe! I love my salsa, yes I do! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteThat makes me want to whip up a batch for the weekend!
ReplyDeleteBJ, My husband loves salsa of any kind..he says the best was one day at lunch I just whipped some up.,I kind of guessed at it...but it did turn out great. I might try your recipe for him...but I may pretend it's mine. LOL. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeletep.s. you are a good person to copy from. :):)
YUM, I like to make my own too! Never use the same ingredients and it is always delicious! You just can't mess up salsa! Have a blessed day dear B.J. HUGS!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these recipes. They sound delicious. Have a blessed day. Madeline
ReplyDeleteI printed out Barb's recipe for salsa. Can't wait to try it but I am thinking I will go easy on the jalapenos. I'm from the south, not south Texas, hehe.
ReplyDeleteWe love salsa around here too! Bj I make my own too, and am always looking for new recipes, thanks for the recipes!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a most blessed and happy Mother's Day!
Blessings,
Sue
Both recipes sound great! I usually make salsa with fresh tomatoes, onion, jalapeno, cilantro, salt, pepper, garlic and lime juice.
ReplyDeleteand sometimes I add black beans and corn!
ReplyDeleteI live in California and we loves us our salsa too. Now I want some of those green avocado tortilla chips too.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Mr. Sweet ... I love Pace Chunky mild too.
ReplyDeleteAudrey Z. @ Timeless Treasures
Sorry, but I'm with your hubby. I love that mild brand of salsa. I do not like cilantro, it tastes like soap to me. However..your chips look very yummy, me and chips have a love connection going on...lol
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Gert
Love a good mild, chunky salsa with not a lot of cilantro, and white corn chips, but have to watch my intake due to the salty chips. I am another one that thinks cilantro tastes like soap. :b
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the weekend.
I LOVE YOU . . . I don't like tomatoes either but I LOVE salsa . . .
ReplyDeleteI am saving your recipe and Barb's too . . .
Hi Bj I love salsa and thanks so much for stopping and sharing these recipe for it at Cooking and Crafting with J & J.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of the week and stay cool.
