Deep Freeze.....

Friday we spent the afternoon
watching Texas Tech's baseball game in 80 degree weather.

This morning, Monday (23rd), it is snowing,
15 degrees with an expected HIGH of 27......

this photo was taken at 7 a.m. and with it being this cold,
I know the streets are already slick as snot glass !

Mr. Sweet goes to workout around 8 ea Fri. morning but decided not to get out there with all the crazy Lubbock drivers.

I've blogged about this little musical snowman and little boy and girl.
When my mother was in the hospital for her 2nd bypass surgery over 20 yrs ago,
I bought this for her to see when she first woke up...
She never regained consciousness...and it still makes me cry.
♥ ♥

We didn't get very much snow..

mostly it just seems
COLD...!!

Our late breakfast wasn't anything to write home about...
Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Toast...
Bacon...
Fruit...
Coffee

I really like this MORNING CAFE coffee for the Keurig...
not as good as Dunkin Donuts coffee, tho.

Left-over CHRISTMAS napkins went right along with our snowy theme this morning.

While I'm not planning on starting "seeds in a jar",

I AM going to re-pot this little plant so it will
GROW....
it's really root-bound in that starter pot.

...other plants are doing very well....
will share that with you in a later post.

I am not sticking my nose out the door on this cold day...
I am surely going to be a HOMEBODY....

I have these 3 books I am anxious to read...especially THE SHACK.

I am going to get all settled in my comfy chair by the patio doors so I can
watch it snow and read at the same time.....O....and drink lots of hot tea...
and maybe have a cookie or two.
**************
Sounds wonderful for such a cold, icy day....

So many friends have read it and say it's a wonderful story.

The other two books are both written by fellow bloggers.
I'll be sure to give them a review after I've read them.....

 OOO...

and meant to tell you these cute bowls came from Walmart.

I think they have them almost every year at the start of winter..
.hot cocoa packets were packed with them...and you can look in the SEASONAL aisle to find them.

  2. I think/agree a day inside, a good book or so to choose from, hot coffee, and let that snow fall elsewhere. Your musical snowman, memories with sadness, but to not be in pain, struggling with every breath and footstep , no matter how old we are, the loss of a parent can seem as if it was yesterday. My Mum just slipped away slowly early one morning, after weeks in hospital, my Dad died at our home, after some weeks that were not easy at all, and I still grieve, The other day I talked to a long time friend, who lost a daughter so many years ago, maybe in the late 1970's. She still grieves, Thomas Moore has the perfect words for today, thank you so much.

  3. I will be anxious to hear what you think of The Shack. I had some friends that loved it and some that disliked it. funny.
I am with you about the Dunkin Donuts coffee. It is my favorite at home coffee. Nothing like it in the world.
That little snow people musical piece is darling. It would make me cry, too, to look at it. I am sorry your Mom never got to see it.
Blessings and stay warm. xo Diana

  4. We are expecting that mess here today! Katie had texted me a picture of her snow covered car at BU this morning. Her "big" is from Lubbock. I read The Shack and loved it. It is very haunting though. My 97 year old mother enjoyed it as well.

  5. You must be freezing BJ! In three days we get to turn the calendar to March, and I know you'll experience spring sooner than we will, but It's on its way!

  6. I know the feeling...our temps have come up a bit but tonight we are expecting a major snow storm...that means we are to get 6-10inches...which will be a miracle if we get that much...but it excited me if it is a pretty snow and then...yes...IT CAN BE SPRING! Oh yes...read the SHACK!! I absolutely loved that book!! I need to get another copy and read it again...wished they would have a made a movie about it. Stay warm, friend!!

  7. Sounds like you have the perfect day planned...hope your evening is warm and cozy, too! I read The Shack, and I didn't love it. But that was years ago and now I can't remember why I didn't...oh well!

  8. Jean I so love your pictures and your home. The homemade place mats just warm my heart so much. My mom passed 2 years ago and she loved this little music box w/ a little boy and girl in the snow that was round and looks like yours. God....it's so hard to lose our mom's. I am going to go check out the Susan Branch website now you make me want to order something so I can hang it in my cabinets and eat cinnamon toast. I hate this Winter weather. Ours in Oklahoma comes back tomorrow...ughh.

  9. Please try to keep that cold in Lubbock and not let it get over here to the NE. We are just clearing up from our slippery ice sheets and don't need any more! They had so many accidents and cars slipping off HWY 75...it was a mess. Only in Texas could 4 inches of snow become an icy hell.

  10. We had about the same amount in Dallas BJ! Lovely and fun photos. That makes me so sad for you about your Mother and the darling music box but i'll just bet it also makes you smile to remember her fondly. More snow on the way darling so enjoy your tea. I'm going to try that coffee too! Big hugs!!!

  12. BJ, looks like you have lots of reading to do. Thanks for your help yesterday. I changed back to no-reply, and I'm pretty sure it has something to do with Google+. But my comments this morning all went to "failure" on other blogs. Ugh! All appears to be okay now. Also, I was on Bloglovin' yesterday when I responded. Wonder if you get the same result responding to my email on this one? I have you actually linked back to my blog now.

  13. My preview reader doesn't show editing so I read 'slick as snot glass'... Had a chuckle and thought I'd pop in in case that was a Texas term you were defining:@) Stay warm, March is right around the corner!

  14. This reminds me that I must round up a couple of books, also written by bloggers, very soon before I forget!

Winter has a grip on us, but will have to give up soon, especially there.

  18. What an unexpected gift Mom Nature bestowed! (I'd quite forgotten the whimsical West Texas weather patterns!)
Such a treasure, those little snow boy and girl ... my eyes began to leak a little, trying to wrap my mind around the enormity of the love you two shared.

  20. Stay in doors and keep warm. The book the Shack sounds like one I would like to read. We got just 1 inch of snow last night. It is very pretty but I plan to stay in doors and work on the my puzzle. Have a blessed day. Madeline

  22. It touched me deeply your story of the little musical snowman and your sweet mom. I sent my sister a favorite CD of a boys choir that I loved immensely for her Christmas gift and knew she would love it too. She listened to it in the hospital for hours before she passed away. That was several years ago and I've never been able to listen to that CD since. Still makes me cry to think about it. Yours is a lovely post. I am hibernating today as we had another snowfall last night. Not so bad really, a little more than a dusting but I have a habit of falling on snow and ice, and as it's so cold I am not chancing it. That book you mentioned sounds fascinating. Good day to read books here also. Have a great weekend :)

  23. Good morning dear bj! What a sweet thought to buy that musical snowman for your dear mom to wake up to in the hospital. So sad that she didn't get to enjoy your gift.
My brother's family lives in Dallas so we heard about your snow and ice. Stay safe!
I just bought a new book to read called Counter Culture by David Platt
Hope you are having a wonderful day today!

  24. brrrr ... good day to stay inside and read and of course drink hot coffee. We are getting another blast of cold air here in South Texas tonight and will not be very nice tomorrow. I haven't read a good book in a long time, so maybe I should take your recommendation and read Shack.
    Be safe and stay warm.

Hope your day is better today.

    Blessings
