♪♪ AMARILLO BY MORNING....♪♪

George Strait....

I think EVERYbody loves him....

and  ♫♫♪ AMARILLO BY MORNING ♪♪♥
is one of my favorite songs by him.

Mr. Sweet and I took a long weekend to AMARILLO...
it's less than 2 hours from where we live.

He was working a Ranch Rodeo Trade Show and one of my best friends in high school
lives in Amarillo so I planned to hang with her and her sis.

The first night there, someone told Mr. Sweet that if we wanted a steak to go to the little hole in the wall COYOTE BLUFF CAFE....

It was rumored that they had the best steaks in Amarillo....

Yep...they sure were right when they said it was a
HOLE IN THE WALL...

but I dearly LOVE going in places like this...
the above photo is off their website...it was dark when we were there.

We decided to give it a try and we had the BEST Ribeye steak and salad, EVER...!!

Nothing in sight that was fancy...just really good steaks.

In fact, it was so good, we did it again the next night.

This time, tho, we tried one of their MANY burgers and
I thought I'd died and gone straight to HEAVEN.

I didn't get a single photo of this Bacon, Fried Onion, Sharp Cheddar,
sauteed mushroom, and all the other stuff famous on a burger.
The above is from their site.

...a vintage bathtub, filled with ice and beer...
so so cute.

We couldn't keep from laughing when we saw their flower POT
beside their front door.

My friends wanted me to see
CADILLAC RANCH...

A wealthy, Mr. Marsh, had olden Cadillac cars buried, nose down....

They encourage graffiti on the cars and they keep a supply of spray paint for visitors to use.

No way was I going to paint those cars...

That's Alice, my friend from high school on the right and her sis.

I was wearing a purple shirt that day and almost blended right into that car behind me
Had it not been for that SNOW WHITE HAIR, you might not could find me..:).

This has to be one of the strangest things I've ever seen in my life and
if you'd like to read more of this weird art, you can go HERE.

It was a lot of fun to see these cars...
and MUCH more fun to see my sweet friend, Alice.
"Thank you, Alice and Sharon, for a wonderful and really fun day..
the Mexican food was awesome (even when your FISH TACOS freaked me out)
and the shopping, wonderful."

This wonderful day brought to mind how blessed I am to still have friends from school.  Such good friends that I hung on to them all thru these long long years.
I thank my Heavenly Father every day for putting them in my life.

I giggled when I saw this sign the
State of Texas put up on the outside of the fence of Cadillac Ranch.

"Graffiti painting of anything on this side of fence
 IS  ILLEGAL."

One morning at the motel we stayed at,
I had a waffle in the shape of the STATE OF TEXAS...

...ONLY PROBLEM....
I put it on my plate backwards and never noticed until I got ready
to post these pictures....
what a goofus..!!

XOXO, bj

  3. Small diners and truck stops have the best food I think. I love the cadillac art. That's pretty awesome. I wonder how many layers of paint are one each one by now.

  11. I love finding spots like Coyote Bluff ... usually the best food and camaraderie to be found! (For a second, I thought you were going to say y'all saw George Strait there!) Were the fish tacos good? For some reason I can't wrap my mind around the idea of a FISH taco. Weird, I know.

I liked the picture of you too . . . LOVE your hair!

  16. Maybe your upside down Texas is just trying to moon the liberals up north? LOL Anyway - it looks like you had a fun trip. And the little hole in the wall restaurant does look like and interesting stop. I love little hole in the wall places. And you do blend right in with that Cadillac. Classy and colorful! ;-)

  17. Thanks for the shout out to me and my fair city. Was indeed a fun day and next on the agenda will be a tour of the city of Lubbock. Thank you, bj for being my friend all these years. So many memories to cherish. Love you, dear friend.

  18. What a great post. It is nice that you still have friends from your young years (not that your old). Sounds like you had lots of fun. The hole in the wall restaurant is very unusual but the food looks very good. The old bath tub with the ice and beer in it was cute as was the toilet flower pot. I would have sprayed my name of one the cars lol. Have a blessed day. Madeline

  19. Amazing car fence! And Texas wanted to be sure that someone didn't continue the silliness outside the fence!

  20. I love the look of the restaurant. I miss visiting Texas. I haven't been there since my uncle died. You asked if I were near your age. I was born in 1940. So am I? Happy Thanksgiving.

  21. I was about to say, either that Texas is backwards or that's the worst waffle baker ever

  23. BJ. love those kinds of places. Lots of good food and local color. We had a place in Castroville (close by where we used to live in Santa Cruz). They are world famous for artichokes. Anyway, there was sawdust on the floor, pictures of famous and infamous all over the walls and they cooked the meat in a hole in the back yard..So good!..Happy Wednesday..Judy

  25. OMG, I so wanted that ribeye steak and salad. The hamburger looks divine. I've only been to Texas for quick trips and never had a chance to find these types of places. Good for you. I think I've heard of the "Cadillac Ranch" but didn't know it was this amazing. You shared some wonderful photos, thanks so much.

  26. Like the picture of your Texas waffle. Reminds me of a trip we took a couple years ago when we were flying out of BWI in Baltimore, MD. We had a very early flight the next day so we stayed at a hotel at the airport....thr next morning for breakfast guess what they had - yep, TEXAS shaped waffles....in Maryland! Too funny!

  27. What fun! You look right at home with those cadillacs - too bad you couldn't drive one. I'm glad you got to spend time with your friend. Long-time friendships are so special and there's nothing quite like spending time together. Some day we hope to be able to travel and I'm sure we will get to Texas. Now I know a place we must add to our list of things to do when we get there. Some day!

  28. That looks like a fun way to spend the weekend. I love going to eat at those type of local places, too. The cadillac painting is a hoot. I have friends from high school, too, and still love them dearly.♥

Don't worry about your backwards Texas. I bet it was still tasty anyway.

  29. That Hole-In-The-Wall gave me a chuckle :)
But, ya know, places like that tend to have the best food.
Not having much overhead to pay for.
The steak and burger sure look scrumptious.

    Have a good day! xoxo
