A Cinderella Photo Shoot...and 1 little stray

Though I've shown my 3 pumpkins before,
they wanted their pictures made again and again...
so I decided to have
A CINDERELLA PHOTO SHOOT and 1 LITTLE STRAY

"Cinderella, dressed in yellow...
went downstairs to kiss her fella..."

It is said that Cinderella's carriage was fashioned after the Rouge Vif d'Estampes pumpkin, an heirloom from France that was introduced into the US in the late 1800s.
***

also known as
THE CINDERELLA PUMPKIN

This impressive variety of pumpkin ranges in color from red to pink to a deep red-orange with deep ribs.

The Cinderella pumpkin is known not only as an ideal decorative pumpkin but also is regarded as a superior dessert pumpkin in the culinary world.

French Pumpkin Pie

6 tbsp. butter
3 lb. kabocha squash or Cinderella or cheese pumpkin, seeded, peeled, and diced
2 granny smith apples, peeled, cored, and diced
34 cup brown sugar
1 vanilla bean, split
14 cup shelled pecans, chopped
2 (7 1⁄2-by-14 1⁄2–inch) sheets puff pastry
1 egg, lightly beaten
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add pumpkin and apples, and cook, stirring occasionally, 8-10 minutes. Reduce heat to low, add sugar and vanilla beans, and scrape browned bits from bottom of skillet with a wooden spoon. Cover skillet, and cook until pumpkin and apples are very soft and jammy but still holding their shape, about 30 minutes. Set aside to cool. When cool, discard vanilla beans and stir in pecans.
Preheat oven to 350°. Roll out 1 sheet of puff pastry into a square on a lightly floured surface. Using an 11" tart ring as a guide, cut out a circle and set aside. Roll out remaining sheet of pastry into a square; then ease pastry into the tart ring, and set on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Trim edges to overhang by 1⁄4". Fill pastry with pumpkin mixture; then lay reserved pastry circle over filling. Tuck edge of top pastry between filling and bottom pastry, and brush surface with egg. Fold overhanging bottom pastry back over top pastry. Bake until deep golden, 35-40 minutes. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Vegetables are a must on a diet. I suggest carrot cake, zucchini bread, and pumpkin pie.

I love the scents of winter! For me, it's all about the feeling you get when you smell pumpkin spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, gingerbread and spruce. Taylor Swift

"Which came first: The pumpkin or the Pumpkin seed"

 and....now for the STRAY...

THE WHITE ONE

...looking for a little BLING to stage my pretty white pumpkin, I robbed the lone sunflower...

 Lesson here....
EVERYthing looks better with BLING....
even plain white pumpkins hanging out with Cinderella beauties.

While surfing for odd pumpkins,
I came across this one...

I had no idea there were BLUE pumpkins...

The following is from the net:
"Why not try a blue pumpkin such as Australian blue or Jarrahdale? The flesh of the blue pumpkin is orange as any other pumpkin but in contrast with the ghostly blue/grey skin it can be quite mesmerizing and eerie."
I had such fun taking these photos of pumpkins...
it just doesn't take a lot to make things fun for me, I guess.

RUBY TUESDAY
(hoping my orange, a form of red, will let me play in Ruby Tuesday :)

  2. Pretty pumpkins, BJ! I've never seen one as blue as in your last photo but pretty close...I love them all.

I've never made anything with a real pumpkin, that would be a challenge. Sad that the holidays are the worst time to not cut corners. Even funnier, we never seem to have anything pumpkin related until fall! ;-D

  8. Ohhh, I do love that blue pumpkin!!!

No real decorating around here, things are so upside down that I can not find anything. I have a feeling all my autumn décor is in the storage compartment. Well there is always next year.

    God bless.

  24. Hi bj,
I love Cinderella's carriage, simply perfect for a fairy tale Princess. At the Apple Festival on Sunday I saw pink Cinderella pumpkins and blue pumpkins for the first time here in France, it's such a shame that my husband can't stand the taste!
Great to have you joining us for MM again this week, I always enjoy your company.
    Maggie.

  28. Why do we love pumpkins so much? Is it the pleasing shape with all those pretty ribs? The variety of colors? I don't know, but I do know I love them! The wartier, and odder the better. I love ALL the colors. That blue one is gorgeous!
