We tend to favor music from our high school years....
and artist from that time era...
Since I was in high school during the FABULOUS FIFTIES
and young thru the 60's and 70's,
I will take to my grave my love for
MR. RAY CHARLES ♥ ♥ ♥
I loved every single note he ever played and sang...
with very few FAVORITES....they were ALL favorites for me.
HOWEVER....
the following ranks right at the very top of
MY MOST LOVED SONGS
by him.
I am almost CERTAIN SURE there's not many people that have never heard this song...
so I am doing my THING FOR MANKIND
just in case YOU haven't heard it before.
It was recorded in 1984, I believe.

You can play it as many times as you want...
and you won't "wear it out".
Since he has gone on to lead the singing in Heaven,
this song makes me cry but it's a good cry.
My love to Mr. Ray Charles.....and to YOU.
If you've not seen the movie
you will be brought to your knees by the acting
JAMIE FOXX
does.....
Maybe you have to be a RAY CHARLES fan to enjoy the movie as much
as I did....
but the songs alone are worth seeing the movie for.
THEY ARE CLASSIC....and FOREVER.
Wow BJ how good to hear from you. Can never get over how similar we are. I graduated in 1956 also and love Ray Charles. I did see the movie and was touched by all the torment he and his family suffered. Glad to be on the blogging circuit again. Thanks for dropping by.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoyed Ray Charles and enjoyed the movie very much! What a voice Ray Charles had! Thanks for the recording!
ReplyDeleteBJ, I love hearing bother Willie and Ray. There's always going to be beautiful music make for years to come...but we all know that they don't sound as sweet as the old songs you can make out the words being sung. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteLast night on our local PBS station, KET (ky educational television) we watched Willie get the Lifetime achievement Gershwin Award. Various well known singers sang his songs and then Willie joined them on the stage and sang a few also. Check your tv channels to see if you can get it. It was Wonderful! I like some of Ray Charles songs but good ole Willie, he does a great job with old standards also. He wrote many songs that others recorded and made famous. Patsy Cline's Crazy is one he wrote.
ReplyDeleteSheila, born in the 50s and still going strong. Love my oldies music! Ha!
Thanks for the link to the song. Don't know that I ever did hear it.
ReplyDeleteCaught the last half of the Gershwin Award on PBS last night. Willie and Cindy Lopper did a great Gershwin duet in their own style.
I lean toward DooWop.
Oh boy, How I remember this heart touching song by these two artists. Love it so much. (From a high school graduate of 1957)Thanks for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely two favorites. My daddy loved Ray Charles.
ReplyDeleteRay Charles was a class act! Good choices in some music, I love Willie too! He is a first rate guy as well. I have that wide range of music loves too. Got that from my late father. He loved opera and country too! I have always followed music because of my children and even some of the rappers, they just rap about what they lived! The language isn't the best but you do understand the lives they had before they hit the big time. The day I was born, the number one song was "How Much is that Doggy in the Window" lol! Have a terrific weekend bj! xo
ReplyDeleteI was lucky enough to see Ray Charles once in concert and boy -- what an evening! He gave and gave and when you thought he couldn't give anymore, he did. Great post! And thanks for reminding me of my good memories!
ReplyDeleteHi BJ,
ReplyDeleteSeen the movie and loved Jamie Fox in it. Music is a gift from the heavens and without it I couldn't imagine life. Do you listen to Adele? Her latest CD is pure wonderment. I listen to all types and generations of music and like you I think Ray and Willie rock!
xoxo,
Vera
If I have the opportunity, I will watch this movie. It's one I wanted to see in the theater, but it got away from me. Ray Charles was one of my parents' favorites so I heard his music often when I was growing up. I have always loved it, too. So smooth and so mellow.
ReplyDeletebj, I am not terribly familiar with Willie Nelson's songs but I do love me some Ray Charles! Both very talented. Thank you for adding a little music to my night!
ReplyDeleteI liked him too . . .
ReplyDeletegreat music
did I say
great
oh yes, the 50's
Jamie Fox played him perfectly
I go way back
remember a song called
Whispering Hope
my daddy used to sing it to me
when we would ride in the car
memories
My husband and I are right there with you...loved Ray Charles!! Love Mr. Willie too, definitely.

ReplyDeleteWonderful start to my week at 5.30 a.m. We have had such a welcome sprinkle of VERY light rain overnight, the cats have been fed, Hugh has been given his coffee in bed, and I am in my favourite place, checking emails, my blog, your comments, and waiting for sunrise. Have a wonderful week, bj and your darling man, hope all is well in your part of the world.
ReplyDeleteLoved Ray and love Willie too. That song brought tears to my eyes.
