Biscuits and......CHOCOLATE GRAVY

I was pretty sure I had died and gone to Heaven...

...when a sweet blogging friend, NANA DIANA,  sent THIS  recipe to me
several years ago.....

CHOCOLATE GRAVY
1/3 stick butter
2/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/3 cup cocoa
2 cups whole milk

Heat butter in a cast iron skillet over low heat. Mix in sugar, flour and cocoa. Slowly pour 1 cup of milk into the skillet and whisk well to remove lumps. Whisk in remaining milk, stirring constantly, until mixture is thick, being careful not to scorch. Serve hot over biscuits.

MERCY ME....
Sooo, I got busy and whipped up some
BUTTERMILK BISCUITS
so we could have some of the delicious sounding
CHOCOLATE GRAVY
I was aiming to have some of that good gravy for breakfast...

 HERSHEY'S COCOA
holds the BEST  childhood memories for me..
Every single time I get it down from the top shelf in my cabinet,
I smile...
It takes me right back to DALLAS and my beloved cousin, SKEET.
SKEET lived in Dallas and when I would go spend a little time in the summer with my daddy...
we always got SKEET to come stay, too.

Our very favorite SWEET was COCOA and SUGAR.
We'd mix it all up in a cup and nearly CHOKE to death on it's sugary powder.
We loved it sooo much and now that we are in our 80's
we STILL talk about it every time we visit on the phone.
 OK....so back to my gravy....
CHOCOLATE gravy...

OOO....my gosh !
WHERE HAVE I BEEN ALL MY LIFE ??
It's hard to believe one can live over eighty years and never have
GLORIOUS CHOCOLATE GRAVY..
and now that I was about to TASTE this glorious sweetness,
I also wanted a favorite...BACON ...to go along with it.
MAN !...what a breakfast.

With my FIRST BITE......

It's very sweet...
like a
♫  good chocolate PUDDING    ♪♫
Just looking at this photo makes me want to LICK MY COMPUTER SCREEN.
***********************************************
OK NOW....

The above was from my archives...
Here, this very morning, 9/13/2019
I woke up hungry for CHOCOLATE GRAVY....

Sooo
I had a skillet full of this luscious gravy bubbling before I could say,
JACK SPRATT....

While it simmered on the stove,
I made a small batch of hot biscuits...
OOO HONEY

This part always makes me sad...
if Mr. Sweet was standing beside me as I poured the gravy into the boat,
he would have had a spoon in his hand,
all ready to "lick" the pan.
O, how I wish he was here....
on the other hand, I know in my heart he is having so many more blessings
than licking the pan of chocolate gravy...😒

Here's something much sweeter than Chocolate gravy...
our little ELENA, all dressed in a fitting color, PINK,
for a tiny little girl baby.

Thanks again, Nana Diana, for this sweet and
delicious recipe...πŸ’‹πŸ’‹πŸ’‹

Much love to all,
bj

  4. This is a recipe I have on file from when Diana shared it. Your posts have reinforced my desire to try it. Some fine day I’ll try it. Better have some company, though. I could eat an entire batch all by myself. (Did you get my emails? I ate shortbread rounds for breakfast! ☺️)
