OATMEAL...the Breakfast of Champions...O, or is that WHEATIES...??

G'morning, all....

The first blog I looked at this morning, with my first cup of coffee of the day,  showed
Well, nothing else sounded good to me for breakfast.....
no, ma'am...

OATMEAL PECAN COOKIES by the Barefoot Contessa  sounded like a WINNER to me....
(I love that woman...she can cook...she's such a gentle soul....and so pretty.)

If YOU like OATMEAL Cookies, here's her recipe and I think nearly 300 comments on the cookies were

                                                                          5 STAR....
THAT'S about as good as it gets...!!

Sooo...I rolled up my robe sleeves..
(remember, this is the first thing in the morning and I'd had NO breakfast.....YET...!! ) is ready and I'm about to have a cup while getting out all the baking paraphernalia ...

The first thing....
2 cups pecans, TOASTED for a few minutes.

This  brings out a flavor you can't get without toasting......
which just MAY be the reason for 5 STARS !!

...the cutest little measuring spoons, ever.
What could be cuter than heart shaped little spoons.

A good blogging friend, KATHLEEN, sent these to me in a package of bloggy love a few years ago.

This cute stacking bowl set came from WALMART a couple of years ago...
I've no idea if they still have them but, if you like them, you might look around the next time you are there.

To me, THAT much oatmeal means it's a HEALTHY BREAKFAST COOKIE....

(the recipe calles for RAISINS but we don't really like them...
I had some dried  CRANBERRIES that I SHOULD have used but
actually forgot them.

This little CHOPPER is vintage and it belonged to my mama.

I have an electric chopper...

but, somehow,
everything seems to taste better when I use something that belonged to MAMA.

I swear....
these are the BEST oatmeal cookies I've ever eaten.

Now, I know we all have different tastes....
but, if you like oatmeal cookies chock full of toasted pecans,
you will love these....

If making these cookies using THE BAREFOOT CONTESSA'S recipe
would only make me as pretty and soft spoken as she,
I would make a batch every single day.

O, I do know that there's probably no such thing as a HEALTHY cookie...
DELICIOUS ones.   :>)

and I LOVE having a PHOTO SHOOT with my cookies.

  1. i think that's a pretty healthy breakfast! :)

  2. They sound so good! I love a bowl of oatmeal in the mornings but I haven't tried to make cookies without sugar and I can't eat sugar at all any more. I sure miss these cookies! I guess I'll eat more oats in a bowl! lol Hugs!

  3. Someone in the house has been hinting at cookies all day...but, alas, I have no pecans. You can make anything look amazing!

  4. Your photo shoots makes the cookies sound even more tempting! I love all the bright, cheery reds. Now I'm off to get that recipe. I love Ina, too...not pretentious what so ever! :)

  8. What a darling post, and I can't imagine having that much energy first thing in the morning, LOL. Not only cooking, but taking photos for your blog! I have always been a big fan of Ina Garten and her recipes. I'll have to try that one sometime!

  9. About the only time I turn on the tv lately is to watch Ree's show on the Food Network and I've seen Ina's show. You are right, she is a pretty lady and I love listening to her talk. Her voice is so soothing. And she makes cooking look so effortless! Your oatmeal cookies look divine and sound healthy to me! Beautiful post, bj!

  10. Great photo shoot. The cookies look delicious. Love your spoons and bowls. You are right about using things that belonged to Mama making things better. Could you please share the recipe for the cookies? Have a great week. Sheila

  11. Those cookies look delicious...and you are right- you gotta have cuteness in the kitchen. I love The Pioneer woman, too. She is a hoot and so talented. I can't wait to get my ovens installed! xo Diana

  12. Coffee is a must and I love oatmeal! Your cookies look delicious. I loved your post. Enjoy your day and week ahead!.

  13. OK, cookies for breakfast just makes me grin. It also makes me want cookies for breakfast, but I think I'm way too lazy to be dragging out the cookie sheets this morning. I am, however, a well known cookie baker in my neck of the woods and have never tried pecans in my oatmeal cookies. I will definitely be trying her recipe.

(And I agree about toasting the pecans. It just makes a difference.)

  14. Sure sounds like a great cookie to me BJ! I told my son I'd make oatmeal cookies soon, might just use this recipe:@)

  15. OMG!!!! I would love these, and I will try them soon. I love your mama's chopper. My "Me-Me" used to use one just like it. I wish I had it. xo

  19. Oatmeal cookies are a favorite here. I love trying new recipes for them, but we always fall back on my mom's recipe. Guess our taste buds are just use to them? Wonderful pictures! Today is a peach cobbler day at our house! Have a great day!

  20. Oh, your cookies look wonderful!! I'm not a fan of raisins either, so I might make these just like you did. :) My kids might actually have a snow day tomorrow (in TEXAS, can you believe it??) and these cookies would really hit the spot. Hope you have a wonderful day!

  21. I love oatmeal cookies with pecans. I mean I love, love, love them.

  22. First of all...I LoVE your blog! The background is beautiful! As is your header... Wish I could figure out how to get backgrounds for mine....(and a signature.,) gives me something to work

  23. Hi bj,
For some reason I stopped getting your posts emailed to me, but like a miracle, they're back!! Hooray!! Oatmeal cookies are my most favorite cookie in the world. I have Neiman Marcus' recipe and LOVE it, but I will have to try Ina's after your recommendation. I love her, too. xo

  24. Oh Yum cookies sound good for breakfast. Me I guess I will have my steel cut oats and pretend they are cookies. Valerie

  25. I can't use pecans without thinking of you! Sweet of you to mention the spoons! :)
