My mama.....

Mother's Day is a modern celebration honoring one's own mother, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society.
My mama, HELEN FREDERICK JACKSON at 17.
What a beauty.

Her mother, EMMA, was expecting a baby when her beloved brother,
FREDERICK, left for World War 1
and my Grandmother Emma told him,
"No matter if this baby is a boy or girl...I will name it FREDERICK....
and she did, indeed.
Sometimes, to tease my mama, we'd call her FREDDIE
and she'd pretend it made her mad...
(she never could turn her head away
 fast enuf
to hide the smile that made her face light up...)

EMMA died when my mother was only 8 years old....
EMMA was in her 30's when she became ill with tuberculosis and passed away...
I am so sorry I didn't get to be with her, growing up....my dad's mother also passed before I was born.

My mother, "Freddie"  was a ROSIE, THE RIVETER, during WW2...

I was too little to remember how she looked during that time but she told me all the ladies wore scarves around their hair,
 probably for safety reasons.
How cool it would be if I could have a picture of her,
 working in that airplane factory..
but I don't....
so I am claiming the woman on our left (above) as my mama....LOL
just look at her using that rivet gun...

Mom was the most talented lady that I have ever met.
She was the kind that could do anything she wanted, and do it well...
It NEVER crossed her mind that  she might not could do it.
Painting, drawing, sewing, cooking...she did it all....
*
but the best of all was the kind of mother she was...

I learned so much from her..
to honor our family name...
to give a job your very best, no matter what the job might be...
to always, ALWAYS remember THE GOLDEN RULE...

She loved my little brother and I with an unconditional love
and altho she has been gone almost 30 years, I still feel her love.
*
Mother had a fabulous personality...really funny and witty and
she had a LOT of friends.
EVERYONE loved my mom !

Happy Mother's Day
to my mama....
 I wish our daughter, STACY..
daughter in law, KATHY
our granddaughters, JESSICA & MICAH
a very HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY.

Happiest Mother's Day to
all mothers past and present.
XOXO ,
bj aka MOM aka MEMAW
aka to my mom, dad and brother,
JEANIE

  5. BJ, I like this post. I did not know any of my grandmothers . I miss my mom so very much. As I have aged and thought about our hard lives growing up...I have learned to appreciate my mother more. She did as best as she could with what she had. Blessings and Happy Mother's Day to you and the women in your family. xoxo, Susie
p.s. hugs for Mr. Sweet...he is in my prayers.

  6. Happy Mother's Day! A beautiful tribute to your mom and grandmother. My mom's name is Gertrude too. Did you know that it is a Valkyrie name? In German, it means "Spear Maiden."

  16. Beautiful post BJ, thanks so much for sharing with us.

My mother worked at Fisher Bodies in Cleveland, Ohio, making B29's during WWII. I was sent to live with her sister while mother and daddy worked during the war. She promised me a puppy if I went and lived with my Aunt Nell, who was like a grandmother to me. I never met my mothers mother or my fathers either. My mothers mother died when she was 9 years old and I don;t even remember when my dad mother died. I think he was around 20.

Wishing you a wonderful Mothers Day BJ

    Hugs,
    Mary

  17. Happy Mother's Day, BJ. Sweet to read about your mom. I was fortunate to know both of my grandmothers, though we lost each of them when I was in third and fourth grade. I never knew either of my grandfathers.

  24. Such beautiful memories. Since I lost my momma, Mothers day is hard for me but I say a prayer, talk to her, and put on a happy face for my family. I cant wait to see my momma again. Such a cool fact about the riveter! My daughter was on the first all girls robotics team and the first year they choose Rosie the riveter as the "mascot" they dressed like her and would pose like her in photos I LOVED it. Girl Power!
