I was looking thru a Country Living magazine and saw THIS photo and fell head over heels in LUV...
This is so my style.
I love things casual....not all matchy matchy....
but I DID want to find matching filing cabinets...
and so the hunt for some great filing cabinets to use as bedside tables in our new Summer House was ON..!!
Believe me, this was easier SAID than DONE....
waaay harder to do than I thought.
Oh, yes....I searched for months...
from sea to shining sea....
Every one I found either was too SHORT....
too TALL...
only ONE.....
or bent all out of shape.
THEN...
one day thrifting with a friend,
there they were...
already painted BLACK...
the color of my choice....
TWO, the right size...vintage....
in excellent condition...
(even have the keys for the locks)
and....
GET THIS...
$8.00 FOR THE PAIR.
O, I know that everyone wouldn't like filing cabinets for their bedside tables.......
but.....

but.....
EXCUSE ME WHILE I FALL IN LOVE !!
Not having to paint them made me HAP....PEE !
I'd bought these Pottery Barn lamps off EBAY several months ago....just hoping I could find some great
filing cabinets to put them on....
they are cute....but not much good for a reading light.
Never you mind, tho...I have an adorable light fixture that will make a fabulous reading-in-bed. light....just needs some work and then it will be GOOD TO GO.
THESE cuties make great NIGHT LIGHTS.....
I luv 'em...
See how adorable they look beside the bed....
please note that I am a loooong way from getting this huge bedroom the way I REALLY want it...
I am dying for a new POSTER bed...
and, I want a small little adorable LOVESEAT at the foot of the bed.
"...all good things come to those that wait"
At this point, we are just lucky to have the bedroom "fixed" enuf to be able to sleep in there.
*heavy sigh

$8 for the pair is phenomenal - no matter where you use them. :)
ReplyDeleteThe bedroom looks fabulous! I've tried those cookies and they are awesome. You're making great progress on making your new house a home :)
ReplyDeleteWow, what a price,$8 for both is almost unheard of. Plus they were just what you were looking for. You were one happy shopper.
ReplyDeleteWow BJ! That was a great find. Your lights, file cabinet and roses looks very like your inspiration picture!
ReplyDeleteLooking good bj ... I am so happy for you that you found the matching file cabinets ... how lucky. Everything will look so cozy when you get it all together. Just takes time to make adjustments when moving to a new place and adjusting furniture to fit.

ReplyDeleteI love the "industrial" look of the filing cabinets. You definitely achieved the look you were looking for.
ReplyDeleteBJ,
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the look and functionality of your file cabinet night stands, dear friend!!!
I adore the black glass door cabinet in your bedroom!!!
Reminds me of the one in Nell Hill's book that is in a guest room!!!
I had to chuckle. . .
about getting your bedroom so you could actually sleep in it.
We're painting the guest room and just finished unloading the Master Bedroom
of all the linens, drapes, pillows, photos. . .so we could have a place to sleep!!!
Lordy, it looks like a bomb went off all over our upper level. . .
and it's only a 10' X 10' petite bedroom!!!
Sweet dreams, dear one!!!
Fondly,
Pat
I love your 'copy cat' posts!!! You are amazing!!! I knew you would have the new place looking just like YOU before we blinked twice! And those cookies! I haven't made them in years but I may have to make some tomorrow. We are down in the country in our camper and I just happen to have those magical ingredients with me. Wonder if you could make them with Cookie Butter from Trader Joe's? Think I'll give it a try!!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great in the bedroom BJ. I really like your end tables - they are terrific. So glad that you found them.
ReplyDeletei also love your cedar chest at the foot of the bed.

ReplyDeleteWhat a find! I love them by the bed. I would never thought to do that...how clever! Your bedroom is looking very spiffy. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a find and just think you can file while laying flat on your back. WHAT a price, too! Love the idea! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteBJ, what a great find! I love both your inspiration photo and what you have done to your bedroom. I've made those peanut butter cookies and they are super duper. xo
ReplyDeleteIt is funny, as I was reading about your hunt for the filing cabinets, I was thinking "all good things come to those who wait" and then you said exactly that.
ReplyDeleteThey are awesome and look great beside the bed! I have made those cookies and they are yummy! I used brown sugar, but must try the regular sugar now! Thanks for sharing that!
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom really looks good. I have made the peanut butter cookies with the same recipe you have easy and so good. Have a blessed day. Madeline
ReplyDeleteYou really got the look! Love the file cabinets as night stands! I like 'works in progress'!! I think I'll make these cookies...yummy!
ReplyDeleteI love a great UPCYCLE my friend and that is SOOOOOO one of them. LOVE it LOTS !!!!!
ReplyDeleteWOW, you were very lucky to have found them. Your bedroom looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteThat is my favorite peanut butter cookie recipe. I try not to make them because they are so good I want to eat way too many.
ReplyDeleteLove you idea of file cabinets as nightstands.
bj Love love love the old vintage file cabinets in your bedroom. Very unique and clever.
ReplyDeleteKris
I love the look of the filing cabinets, bj. It's really looking good in your bedroom. I'll bet you can breathe a sigh of relief in there now. xo
ReplyDeleteWow, you got pretty darn close to your inspiration photo! I would never have thought of filing cabinets next to the bed, but these work. All of your decor choices make for a very inviting space. Great job!
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom is looking really great. Love the idea of using filing cabinets as bedside tables. We are stuck with a matching set - headboard, armoire and end tables - given by Hubby's MIL. I did get the dresser moved to another room. Little by little.
ReplyDeleteThese PB cookies are very "dangerous"
ReplyDeleteOnce you start eating them, you can't stop!!
I loooooooooooove them
BJ I don't like matchy matchy either! Sorry about the blog! I think you will find those lost followers.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! You got the look you wanted! I think your room looks great.
ReplyDeleteDeanna
Those file cabinets look great - AND you get storage! And the lamps made me laugh. That is the lamp I bought from Pottery Barn and is sitting about a foot away from my elbow, on my desk, in my home office! I don't buy very often from Pottery Barn, but I had to get that lamp. It is way cool!
ReplyDeleteI like the ones you found better than the ones in the photo and the price...unreal....
ReplyDeleteYou've done a beautiful job in setting up the bedroom and I know you will find the other pieces you want in no time.
Love the lamps, also love that cabinet with the windows. Take care - Dawn @ We Call It Junkin.com
ReplyDeleteYour filing cabinet looks perfect as a bedside stand. And those cookies! Yum!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I found you again, BJ! I suggest you link up to lots of parties - that's how I found your new url, at a meme.
ReplyDeleteSo happy I found you again via a party link!!! Added you again and happy to see your blog again.

Looks like you are getting things in the right order in your new home. I would have never thought of using filing cabinets as an end table. You have a head full of great ideas. Trust you are not worn out from all these activities.
ReplyDeleteWell, here you are! I've had the Pinkerton Agency, the new Sherlock Holmes, the Texas Rangers and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police looking for you!! Things are looking good in your new abode. Hope all is well.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
Bj, I love the look too! I've always been mad for plaid, but your star shams are wonderful. The filing cabinets turned nightstands worked great. What a fabulous price too! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
