aka TOTALLY RANDOM POST
Hello all...
we are having really HOT days here now.
No triple digits yet...hovering aroud 96 to 98.
HOT enuf.
Some may remember the
ICE CREAM CONE
canvas that I bought at the thrift store...
Deeds, our youngest grandgirl, loved it so it will hang in her room during the summer at the lake house...
and then, she said she'd bring it back to her "regular" home to hang in her room there.
I am happy that it made her smile. xoxoxoxo
I've decided I just don't really know how to do chalk paint.
I am liking it better with adding more wax and dry brushing for another layer.
I am liking it better with adding more wax and dry brushing for another layer.
I used the off-white paint to dry brush
and used a very light hand and used only a little....
I like it....so I'll add a little more. later...
right now, I am tired of working on it. :)
I personally like this technique for distressing more
than the sanding method.
I didn't want any of the dark wood underneath to show thru ...
sanding would have done that very thing.

The lighter paint kept the whole piece in the light effect I was after.
Deeds spent the night with us and we
couldn't wait to get in the pool the next morning.
My hat and my coverup
hang on a vintage brass hat rack
beside the door out to the pool.
(ok...I'll come clean...
my "coverup"
is actually a cotton calf-length gown from the infamous
WALMART....
but with the bright, fun letters against the black background, I thought it was cute for a coverup and it works
perfectly.
If I walk into this room at night, I nearly ALways jump, thinking for just a split second that it's a person.

ReplyDeleteLove the ice cream cone, it does have a cooling effect. You two look like you're having fun chillin' in the pool together! We're even having a heat wave in Ontario, the old A/C is getting a work out.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this post so much, a visit with you is pure joy! You guys look great in the pool, and that cover up is perfect! Yu did a great job on the table and the color is lovely,
ReplyDeleteHey, that cone canvas would make anyone smile. What a fun, whimsical picture to have on the wall!
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I put in a pool is my feet hanging over the side. Never been a water person. This post would be perfect for Blue Monday as well. Enjoy any time you can have with the grans.
ReplyDeletebj, you are like me, if my grands love it, it's theirs!! Love the new photo header. You look so happy! I haven't tried chalk paint yet and I'm a bit scared of it all!

Love your blog, it is so colourful and I could eat those ice creams on the poster, they look so yummy. I have become a follower so I can pop back and see more of your work.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the magazine rack. It looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Your magazine rack turned out great. Enjoyed the photos of you and Deeds in the pool. Yes the summer is going by so fast I cannot believe that August is almost here. It seems like the older I get the faster the months and years fly by. Have a blessed day. Madeline
ReplyDeleteI've got an old table that I would like to paint and am such an uncreative person that the thought of tackling it causes me stress. Love what you did to the magazine rack though. Maybe I will work up my courage.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post, bj...and I really like the little book rack that you painted. You are right, guys hate painted furniture but I will tell you that after being skeptical, my hubby LOVES my painted kitchen cabinets :) Happy Wednesday!
ReplyDeletelooks much better
ReplyDeleteI'm with you Bj , I love the magazine rack the way you did it! Enjoy the pool during these HOT summer days!
ReplyDeleteBJ, I really do love the color on your magazine rack, and so glad it turned out well!
ReplyDeleteBJ, Lots of fun at your house. Glad Deeds like the ice cream picture. You did a fabulous job on the magazine rack. I love the colors. I think you are right about not have the wood tones show. Good for you wearing your hat in the water and having a cover up too. Blessings , xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteThose pictures of you and Deeds in the pool are so cute, bj! You should frame them, if you haven't already.
ReplyDeleteI love how the magazine holder turned out. You're better at painting than you think you are :)
xo,
rue
I like the magazine rack it looks pretty cute. Great job. I love the pool shots you look like you are having fun and cooling off nicely. Ahhh the pool looks so inviting. We are in the same weather up here in Illinois as you are. In the 90's oh so hot for us. At least summer has finally arrived.
ReplyDeleteKris
You did a fine job on the magazine rack! I love the color. Cute pool pix...looks like you and Deeds are having a blast!
ReplyDeleteGetting ready to chalk paint a desk. It will be quite a clean-up job first, to be sure. But if I can get all the dirt and mold off, it should look rather sweet. Like the off-white dry brush. I may try that!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh... This post is adorable! Sure looks like you guys are having fun!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Gert
love the icecream poster/canvas (I can't remember what you said it was, isn't that just awful?) but I love it. And, looks like Deeds and Memaw are having a blast in the pool. Such nice pictures.
ReplyDeleteIt's a Blue post. Are you joining Sally on Monday. I like the magazine rack. I've never tried chalk paint but I want to.
