"I carried a watermelon..."

 ♪ ♪...hey...heeeey...........baby.....I wanna know.......if you'll be my girl.....♪♪♪

Well, I watched it AGAIN last night
...and I have now LOST count of how many times I've  watched this movie.

WHAT IS IT about this little 1987 movie that continues to leave us breathless ?
***
"That was the summer of 1963, when everybody called me Baby, and it didn't occur to me to mind. That was before President Kennedy was shot, before the Beatles, when I couldn't wait to join the Peace Corps, and I thought I'd never find a guy as great as my dad. That was the summer we went to Kellerman's."
Baby Houseman
Is it THE MAN himself .....?
He was such a great actor......and talented at dancing.
Now, for some, he was very handsome....
not so much for me,
but I sure liked his acting....O, I thought he was cute enuf...
Johnny:  " Look, spaghetti arms. This is my dance space.
 This is your dance space.
I don't go into yours, you don't go into mine.
You gotta hold the frame. "
 ♥
Is it that no other man on the planet could have played
JOHNNY
as well as Patrick ?
The dancing he did in this movie........WHOA !

Or is it the adorable BABY.....?
(I would KILL for all that beautiful hair)

Baby: "Oh, yes, as a matter of fact it is. We're supposed to do the show in two days, you won't show me the lifts, I'm not sure of the turns, I'm doing all this to save your ass, what I really want to do is drop you on it! "
*
Is it the awesome, breath-stopping chemistry
between the two ?
"Me?  I'm scared of everything. I'm scared of what I saw, I'm scared of what I did, of who I am, and most of all I'm scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I'm with you."
Baby Houseman

Is it that just about every woman that loves the movie
would LOVE to have been  on that log with him....?
*

or....was it all the Dirty Dancing....????
You have to admit, it made our hearts beat a little faster...pulse race..
daydream a little bit while watching ....maybe going back in memory
to another place...another time....*whew......

I think ALL OF IT combined, made it one of the most
 loved movies of the time.
Olden people and young alike seem to have it on their FAVORITE MOVIES list.

FOR ME....
it was THE DANCING
....and the MUSIC.

WIPEOUT
HEY BABY
I HAD THE TIME OF MY LIFE
and the list goes on.

.....Jennifer Grey, how fun was it to make this movie with PATRICK SWAYZE  ?????
(ACTUALLY, I read somewhere they didn't really get along very good)..??

"I carried a watermelon."
Baby Houseman
(IF I'm not mistaken, there's a blog out there with that very name...)
♥

Whatever it was that made this a favorite movie of so many,
I hope to see THE MAGIC in another movie just like it.........SOON.
♥ ♥ ♥

If you don't have the DVD, rent it.....

It's in one of my baskets of THE BEST MOVIES, EVER  ! !

  1. Oh- I loved that, too, bj. It was the time of my life and I think I connected to that-it was supposedly set in the Poconos, wasn't it? Anyway, I loved it...and I was sad that the lovely Jennifer Grey had plastic surgery that so altered her looks. Sad----xo Diana

  3. BJ, if you haven't seen Crazy Stupid Love yet, I recommend it to you. There's even a reference to the scene in Dirty Dancing where he catches Baby overhead.

  4. Yeah... It was sweet, it was sexy and still innocent. Perfectly cast... I love every bit of it!

  5. Okay, here's your friend "the prude" again. I remember hating the title of this movie, which probably explains why I didn't see it until 2004 or something. I remember thinking it wasn't so bad and I really enjoyed the dancing. I also really enjoyed Jennifer Grey on Dancing With the Stars, too.

  14. Great review bj. With this cold weather and staying indoors ... perfect time to re-watch the old movies.
Hope you have a nice warm fire going in the fireplace.

  15. Oh my, it brings back memories, bj! I just wish Jennifer Gray hadn't gone and altered her looks, and for that matter, Renee Zellwegwer, too. They were beautiful before.

  16. Nobody puts Baby in the corner! Loved that movie! It says "my young life" to me although I did nothing like the characters! Sure didn't look like Baby. She was stunning. Patrick! Gone too soon. I want a peek in your favorite movie basket! Come on. Don't tease us like that! Hugs.

  17. Believe it or not I've never seen that movie before. I'm not even sure why because I've seen other Patrick Swayze movies although I think that was his most popular. Okay, one of these days, I'm going to have to rent it... :)

  18. I have never seen it. However, have not been to see any movie in a LONG time. What is out there is not my taste. Never cared for musicals. Wait until I tell JD about this fellow.

  19. I loved that show also and watch it every time it is on. That dance was just unbelievable - I guess we all dreamed that some day we would be able to dance like that. Nope - never happened!

    Thanks for the good memory.

  21. Good morning bj, I too LOVED this film. I never get tired of watching it as well. Lake Lure is not far from where we live. An hour probably. I didn't know about a new production happening. Your post covered every best scene in the movie. Loved the memory of it all returned to me this morning. Did you see Jennifer Grey on Dancing with the Stars? She was a great dancer.

    Happy weekend bj.
