About this time every single year,
we all start looking and wishing for
SPRING/SUMMER
We have had a VERY mild winter out here in West Texas....
only one tiny snow that didn't amount to much...
not enuf to make
SNOW ICE CREAM
and THAT is the only reason I would have liked a bit more of the cold, wet stuff.....
well...
and to help with the sand storms we are going to have plenty of !
No moisture of any kind is not a good thing out this way..
I know I am rushing warmer, sunnier days
but being inside the Summer House most days through this long winter,
I am ready for CHANGES...
Stopping here to say that my photos are really bad...
not good lighting in the living room...
cloudy day....
even trying to edit them didn't do a lot of good.

I started changing on my 2 bookshelves
in my living room....
one on each side of the large tv.
This BEFORE photo is what I've had for years on these shelves....
and they have been ok....
I love the look of BOOKS
but I was just tired of it all.....
I don't like these dark shelves...
I would like them the same color as my walls...
but, if I paint them,
I might need to paint the matching dark table below the tv
and that is more of a job than I want to tackle.

Mostly, I shopped my house for items to display...
and several are re-used....just in a slightly different way.
♥ ♥ ♥
The NEW here is this little
hi
I had the cute toad stool and white Pier 1 plate...
just needed some GREEN...and a little industrial
to add with them.
♥
these are the only books I added back
and the metal and canvas basket is new...
from BIG LOTS.
♥
I've had this basket for years ...
I just took away all the books on each side of it
and added a tiny white pot with a little green.
A new little basket and a couple of new candles and holders...
BIG LOTS
I adore BIG LOTS...
if you go often and check closely,
you can find cuteness for a low low price
♥
Another BIG LOTS score...
I think these are actually to hold silverware
but I love using them just like this on these dark shelves....💕💕
Both of these items I've had for several years...
again, just removing the books made it look a little lighter.
♥
♥
A matching older basket holds our Family Bible...
a place where all the dates of
births
marriages
deaths
and all other family info
and all other family info
are recorded...
and the Bible holds a lot of other things that are dear to my heart.
...A LITTLE LIGHTER AND BRIGHTER FOR SPRING
I am pleased with these changes....
and I have a bunch more in mind.
Right now, I have 2 PROJECTS in mind...
here is one that I THINK I can do myself....
I really...REALLY...want to make this adorable flag sign
in these very colors....for my vintage mantel.
I just LUV it....
and another:
Just take a look at my sweet blogging friend, CAROL at
PLATE RACK....
I am sooo in love and when I find someone that can build it for me, I intend to have one....
*HELP..
I am running out of wall space....
OK, folks...
that is about it for now.
My love to all of you and
I'm wishing for Spring too BJ...YOU have such a lovely eye for decorating....it's beautiful inspiration!
ReplyDeleteKeeping busy, I see! No sign of Spring here yet, alas.
ReplyDeleteBJ, I love the shelf make overs. They do look light and the whites and greens make me think spring. Oh that flag is so cute. I have adored Carol's little plate rack against the walls. So clever too. Glad you had a mild winter. Ours was so many turns and twists, highs and lows. So ready for spring . Blessings, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteYour bad pictures are better than my good ones:) I love the lighter items added on the bookcases for Spring. Enjoy your day dear B.J. HUGS!
ReplyDeleteI love changing my decor around and lightening up is sometimes just what's needed! I love green growing things whether they are real or faux, they add life to a space!
ReplyDeleteI like your projects! So great!
BJ, you could putter and switch things up every day and everything would look great. You have the eye. Hope you can find a way to get your plate rack and the flag. Both things are adorable.
ReplyDeleteThe changes you made look great. Have a blessed day. Madeline
ReplyDeleteBJ,
ReplyDeleteLOVE your Spring Shelf decor!
That basket filled with greenery and the wicker candles is my favorite shelf display!
I love the cover on your Family Bible!
I have used gift wrap to line the back of my Dining Room Hutch with great success.
It's just a thought! Less expense and less time.
If you're not pleased with the results, it's easy to remove. . .double stick tape!
I'm not quite ready for Spring, as I feel I have one good Snow Angel left in me.
Waiting for Mother Nature to agree!
Pat
BJ,
ReplyDeleteLove your Spring decorating!! and I too LOVE Big Lots!! I also love their rewards program!! Spring is no where in sight here. If you have time, stop by my latest post and you will see why!! LOL!!
Hugs,
Deb
Looking forward to spring here too. Your newly arrange book shelves look great. Love the flag sign you want to make!
ReplyDeleteIt looks lovely. It'll be awhile before it's spring here but I'm getting antsy on the decorating part! I just did bookshelves too -- except they're still all filled with books -- just fewer of them!
ReplyDeleteWonderful fresh changes. I like it. I like how you decorate as a whole. Hope your Thursday is going well.
ReplyDeleteI love your shelf transformation and all your design ideas.
ReplyDeleteYour change of decor on your bookcases looks great. I have a fa.family bible that was my grandmother's. It has a special place in my heart.
ReplyDeleteHopefully you can get someone to build the plate shelf. Carol does a super job styling hers and I'm sure you would do fun things too.
Hope the sand storms aren't too bad this year
Cindy
I love the change you made with the book shelves! I thought, "But the 'before' shelves look great." But seeing the 'after' I now understand about them being lighter and more like spring. So simple but it made a huge difference in the look.
ReplyDeleteI am so looking forward to a change in the season as well. I even bought some seeds to start inside.
ReplyDeleteLove the lighter bookcases, and the flag is gorgeous. I hope you get to make it.
God bless.
I will gladly ship you some of our snow lol! I LOVE Big Lots . . . there is one just a few blocks from our house and every time I go in there I come out with more than what was on my list! They really can't be beat for the farmhouse decor, candles, etc. Your shelves look amazing!! I love all of the accessories and how spring-y it looks!
ReplyDeleteThe shelves look marvelous! Im so ready to bring Spring into my home. I need to get me some of those cute little succulents like you have. Don't they just make you happy?
ReplyDeleteLisa
The changes are very refreshing, BJ, I would so love to have plate rack too!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Sue
Cute flag
ReplyDeleteThank you for all of the wonderful inspiration to lighten the look when things get heavy and dreary. You used a lot of white and greens (bright greens), which is very nice, very cheerful. I really like your style!
ReplyDeleteYour shelves redo looks so fresh and perfect, bj. I particularly love the Choose Happy sign. Yes, Big Lots does gave cute items and you know how to arrange them so well. I love that you have two projects in mind. You're an inspiration!
