My first projects for 2017

I used to get things done right away when I had a project in mind.
But, that was back in my younger days...
now, as I have my foot in the door of 79 years old,
I've slowed down so much,
half the time, I can't tell if I'm
coming or going.

Back in the late spring, I wanted a beautiful patio for
Mr. Sweet and I to enjoy
and it took no time at all to get the project completed...

I ordered the pergola...
and, of course, that was the FIRST STEP...

I ordered the swing I wanted...
(I had saved my Amazon gift cards for a long long time to buy this)

our men around here put the pergola together and anchored to the concrete...
my swing arrived and it took just a short time to put it together...
I shopped for BLACK AND WHITE cushions for the chairs
and planted flowers by the pot full...

I worked and worked and worked on this sweet spot....

and then....
one morning, I looked out there...

and it was finished...!!

then, I had no more than finished making my sweet outdoor nest
than I saw THIS on someones blog...
PURE INSPIRATION...
and this would be perfect for my patio.....

 choose my paint colors...

I primed and painted...and painted again

and, before I knew it,
I had the sweetest little addition to my Pergola Patio
that I will enjoy for years...
2 other projects have been put off for far too long
and I aim to get them both done in the next month or so #ifitkillsme

#1

I've had this adorable, fun fabric to make a cute quilt for at least a year....
I had to have my vintage Singer sewing machine which belonged to my mama
in for repairs...
but it's good as new now...

Why I keep putting off starting the quilt is beyond me...
if I can just cut that first square of fabric,
I think I will be good to go on the making of a quilt...

#2
I have dreamed and swooned and coveted this amazing set of shelving
FOR....EVER !

It's NOT going to be that hard to accomplish...
boards and paint and brackets ....

it's just one of those things you have to say,
"HEY, GIRLFRIEND....let's paint those shelves today..."
and then I would be ON MY WAY....
I just need more SELF DETERMINATION....

and, that's the thing...
I have to really WANT to get going on a project before
I can really throw myself into it and get it finished.
*
To my remembrance, I've never started a project that I didn't finish...
so once I get started on these, I am pretty certain I'll finish.

If any of you have any SELF DETERMINATION left over,
would you kindly toss it THIS way...??
It has become a tradition, for lack of a better word,
for me to leave you with SOMEthing to eat...
*

 Egg Nog Waffles
YUMMY

I used this great Buttermilk mix and instead of adding WATER, as it called for, I used
EGG NOG...

and a capful of
VANILLA...

and a handful of
PECANS...

and lot of butter...
so so good...

Mr. Sweet smothers his waffles and pancakes in LOTS of syrup.

I like just a tiny bit of syrup to dip my waffle ....

OOO...and the cute little bowl with
PLAY...LOVE...EAT...
in the background...

 Isn't it cute...
it was $2 on the clearance table at Home Goods...
and some of my friends know how much I LOVE white dishes with black writing...

and, yep....I know it's a doggie bowl...
the cute little paw in the bottom of the dish gave it away...

but look how cute it looks with CANDY in it....
hahhaa...gotta love it.

  1. I don't, obviously, believe in self-determination. If The Lord doesn't give me a boot, I get nothing accomplished. It's winter in Maine and all I can manage is keeping the driveway cleared. I am exhausted!

That's why I enjoy all the sunshine over here and the pretty colors on your patio. Does one of your Bunco friends quilt? Maybe you can have dueling sewing machines. 😉 As for knocking on 79, I always think the last few years in a decade sound much worse than the first few years in the next decade, older somehow. Right. no one has ever accused me of being logical, but perhaps that is how you are feeling.

    1. Dearest Vee, I don't seem to focus on age because I am too busy thanking our Heavenly Father for my good health...and Mr. Sweet's, also. We know we are olden...and getting more so by the micro second, but, oh how thankful we are to be able to do the things we do at our ages. xoxo

  2. We must be on the same wave length BJ. Just posted today about making resolutions for just one month instead of the whole year and using January to get old projects done.

  11. Isn't the saying, ''The road to heaven is paved with good intentions?" I have so many ideas in my head that I believe they zap all the energy that it would take to accomplish them. So you keep up the good work and I will simply sit at my computer and share in your projects!! Happy Happy New Year, special friend! xxxx Jackie

  14. You are one determined lady! It's great how you accomplish your own version of whatever it is that inspires you! That quilt is sure to be gracing a bed before many months pass!
I rejoice with you for good health and a long life! My Louis Dean is 80 but it's hard to believe since he doesn't look or act like it! Staying busy keeps people from aging and you are absolute proof of that! I hope I am as lovely and active as you are when I move up a decade! I'll be knocking on the door of 70 pretty soon. You are an inspiration to all of us!
I think I hear a rattle from over your way! You must be rummaging around for your scissors!

  15. I have so many things I'd like to accomplish but I just cant when the hubby is not on board with me. speaking of boards. I still have peices of the peir that was torn away by Hurrican Matthew. I want to make signs with them. I would have already started but they are just to thick and heavy so the hubby was going to thin them down. Sooooo I have to wait on him to do that. Which means probably never. I may have to just work on them the way they are.
Cant wait to see lots more post from you in the new year! Everything you touch turns lovely. I mean, you else can make a dog dish look good!!!?

  19. Bj, You did make the cutest patio. I loved how you pulled it all together too. I want a waffle...it sounds better the way you prepared it than just adding water. LOL. I want to wish you, Mr. Sweet and your family a happy new year filled with love and good health. xoxo, Susie

  25. BJ you are an inspiration to me. I have found I'm slowing down so much and I'm just a few years younger than you. This Christmas I made my Mom two beautiful blouses and I felt so good making them. I'm pledging I keep doing instead of putting off in 2017. Happy New Year.
