Sour Dough Biscuits by mistake....

I woke up hungry for a biscuit...
buttered...
jellied....

and, well....
MORE than just ONE.

I always keep Self Rising Flour in my freezer for a
QUICK BISCUIT FIX.

...just add your shortening and milk...

I had a carton of Sour Cream so a tablespoon of it went into the mix..
I LUV Sour Cream Biscuits.

When I reached for the milk, I discovered NO MILK....
except soured BUTTERMILK...
I hesitate to use the word CLABBER...
so many young people may not know what it is....but it is soured buttermilk.

I had already added the Sour Cream...
and now I added CLABBERED MILK...

and came up with SOUR DOUGH BISCUITS
that were so good, I wanted to slap my SOUTHERN pappy....

OOO HONEY

Nope, I didn't add the CHERRY PRESERVES to the biscuit mix....

but, I surely added it to the cooked biscuits...:)

I buy the Cherry preserves and the Apricot preserves at the same time and alternate each morning....

I'd be hard pressed to choose a favorite.

I do love preserves.......those bits of fruit just take it all  over the top for me.

Since I was in a bit of a rush, I used the DROP BISCUIT method..
saved a little time not rolling and cutting ea. biscuit
and they taste the exact same.

Also, the bottoms are crispy....just the way we like them...!!

Get you a small package of SELF RISING FLOUR,
keep it in the freezer to keep it fresh,
most packages have the recipe on the back...
actually, as I said, you only add milk and shortening.
(if you like SOUR DOUGH...do as I did and add both SOUR CREAM
and BUTTERMILK...(clabbered if possible.)

This is so quick and you can make them before you go to work...
be SURE to make extras for toasted biscuit halves the next morning....

For cinnamon biscuits....
slice biscuit, add butter, sugar (I use sugar sub) and lots of cinnamon...
slide those little biscuit halves under the broiler and.....
WOW...so so good.

OH, YES....
I do know this kind of food isn't good for the body...
BUT...
we have to also feed our soul
and
SOUR DOUGH BISCUITS
is a mighty fine SOUL FOOD.

  6. I wanted biscuits tonight with my fresh green beans that I cooked all day with salt pork, yum yum. I put a couple of potatoes in the last hours of cooking and had fresh tomatoes, radishes and cukes. It would have been so much better if I would have had some of your biscuits. Thanks for the recipe - they sure looked good.

  11. That is my kind of biscuit ... crisp on the bottom and not a lot of 'fluff' in the middle. I usually pull out part of the middle (give it to Mr. Z.) so then I have a thin crispy bottom and top too. Love preserves over jelly so I get bits of fruit. Thanks for making everyone hungry. Love drop biscuits and less mess.

  14. By the time I leave your corner of Blog Land, I'm always either hungry or happy, and sometimes I'm both. These look delicious, and I had never heard the term "clabbered". I have lost a carton of buttermilk so long in the back of my fridge that it was downright CLOBBERED instead. Most of the time, though, I have something curdling up in there to use.

And I didn't know that about freezing the self rising flour. I always have it on hand, but I don't use it as regularly as the other flour. I shall start putting some in the freezer. Thanks!

  24. I'm always hesitant to use milk or buttermilk past the expiration date. Silly, I know. I use powdered milk in those cases when my milk is out of date. I think next time, I'll go ahead and try it.
