A Sunday

It's so hard to believe that it's been over a month since I've posted here.
I never knew I could go that long without jumping right back in.

There's several reasons, I think.
I have had a hard time getting interested in ANYthing
since Mr. Sweet passed.
Many days, I would like to stay in my pj's all day
and sleep....
I know that isn't good for me so I fight it...
I fight it almost every day.

and another reason I've been absent from Sweet Nothings.....
INSTAGRAM !!!

It's so much less work over there.
Post a photo or two...
add words if I feel like it...
where on blogs, we spend a lot of time taking lots of photos
and coming  up with lots of words...

One thing that HASN'T CHANGED.....

I do love donuts.
these SWEET P'S that I buy at my grocery store
are always so fresh and good.

Many years ago,
a friend and co-worker and I would have a coffee break
at the drugstore right next to our cotton office.
The lady that worked behind the counter made us a special treat one morning
and I've been eating it for over 30 years now.

She sliced the donuts in half, buttered them and put them on the grill.
O HONEY
talk about taking a glazed donut to the next level...😍😍😍

I don't always use my George Forman grill for this luscious treat,
I sometimes just put them in a skillet

and I like fruit or fruit juice as often as I can...

 I like Maple donuts....
oh.....and strawberry....
and I never turn away from
a chocolate one....

but the plain, glazed ones, fixed in this simple manner
just might be my favorite.

Mr. Sweet liked them, too...
and Apple Fritters.

I always like to read something while having breakfast....

This morning, it was this really great cookbook...💖

I know you workin' girls don't always have time in the morning
to make yourself a good breakfast...
I'm hoping 2 or 3 times during the week,
you can manage it, tho.

THEN on Saturday and Sunday mornings,
maybe you can even manage to have it
IN BED !!!

  1. Yum on the breakfast. Sorry that it's been hard to get interested in things since your honey bunny passed. I'm sorry you have that pain and I wish I could take it away for you.

Instagram? I know right? How fun is Instagram? And the people I've met over there are AMAZING. Really, really such a fun platform. Go you for jumping into a new platform. Keep those fun photos coming.

  2. Words! I love the words! And the pictures, too. And the ideas...oh my! I am going to resist the urge to have a fried glazed doughnut much as you resist staying in pjs all day...wouldn’t be good for me.

  4. Although I see you on Instagram often, and I love that, I still love reading your commentary on what you are cooking, how you are decorating, what's up with your family...so keep those blog posts coming, if you can. And I wish you peace and comfort for those pj days...(:

  5. I love the plain glazed ones too! I'd never heard of doing them up on the grill w/th butter either, but I think Mr. Front Porch did that for me a time or two....yep!!--they sure were delicious! If I had to choose a meat like you did ham....I would surely pick BACON! I do love bacon. Sending hugs, my friend and blogging sister!

  9. Sooo good to see you here, bj. I knew you had been struggling. Life is just so hard sometimes when the people and things we love have been taken from us-leaving us bereft and feeling anchorless. I pray for you and that today is a good one for you.

OMGOSH---buttered and grilled?! I can't imagine...well, I can but I don't want to for fear I will get in the car in this snowstorm and go get some glazed donuts. We had a Krispy Kreme here for a couple of years but it didn't last long-what a sad day in my life-the day it closed!

Have a beautiful day, bj! xo Diana

  10. Healing hearts takes time, BJ. It's a platitude, but it's a true one, and the most important thing is to be gentle with yourself and to go one day at a time, finding joy and grabbing it when you can and being with your thoughts and memories when you must or when you choose. It's just so darned hard. I do hope each and every day gets a little better. Someone once told me that grief is like a spiral -- it goes around and around and around and comes back on itself, all the so-called stages. Just let them happen. Even spirals have an end.

  14. Love me some fresh glazed donuts BJ. And...I am a true ham lover too. I would rather have that meat for breakfast any day of the week. Now my man wants bacon. Oh he loves it. I am on instagram but don't post often. Hope you have a good week dear lady. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  15. I can't imagine how you feel but never apologize for it because you don't have to. You love Mr. Sweet and I can't imagine what it feels like. I have been with my husband for most of my life.

I don't eat donuts not because I don't want too but for some reason I get pains in my stomach after I do. I have tried many times thinking I my stomach won't bother me. Donuts are the only food that does it to me. Keep enjoying them and I love breakfast too

  17. I love donuts, my favorites are vanilla with chocolate frosting, but...I never have one. There just doesn't seem to be anywhere around that sells good ones. That might be a good thing, LOL because if there were I would probably over-indulge.

  18. BJ, it's always a treat when you post on your blog. I don't do Instagram, so blogging is the way I keep up with you. Would you believe that I bought Paula Deen's Just Desserts cookbook when it came out because I liked her hair style on the cover? (still do!)

I know missing Mr. Sweet is the hardest thing you've ever had to experience, but your faith and love for beautiful things is very apparent in your blog writing and that encourages the rest of us. Be at peace, dear one.

  19. Breakfast is my favorite meal. Nothing better than biscuits and gravy with ham or crisp bacon. You know the sister I go see in MS twice a year, she lost her husband last week. In a way it was a blessing as he does not suffer anymore.

  23. We love your posts, but I too have been drawn in by Instagram as it is so quick and easy compared to putting a post together and hoping someone will take a minute to read it. You are loved by many of us in the blogosphere and we miss you when you aren't here. . .I know that doesn't make up for the loss of your dear Mr. Sweet, but know that we look forward to your visits and hope you'll be here often. xxx J.

  24. Oh wow! And you didn't tell us about this breakfast until now!!! Enjoying your instagram, B.J.! You know what I do sometimes. I take photos, and put them there, and when I have enough, I often see a theme or an idea, and then I make a post on my blog! Sending you a hug. Tt's great you have family nearby. Maybe there is some activity or a special that can get you prettied and about once a week. The spring is coming, maybe a brunch and then the nursery. xoxo Su

  27. OMG ...I'm coming to your house for breakfast ..It looks yummy .. So sorry about your loss..I lost my mother at Christmas time and I share in the empty feeling..BIG HUGS to You Dear Lady ...Writing is one of the best therapy ... and especially blogging it encourages you to share your feeling and go the extra mile with your friends... Instagram and facebook always seem like fragmented one liners to me ... where blogging allows us to really connect and share the kindred spirit... so I do hope that you can move forward positively knowing that are loved here. Lovely Post...

    A grilled donut sounds delicious!
I just joined Instagram recently and today I put up my first post. I hope I enjoy it as much as you have. I'll have to check out your Instagram page.

  31. I agree about Instagram...that's why I don't have a blog, and never will! I also don't assume a lot of folks are all that interested in me or my ideas I'm glad you are managing to move forward Oh, and I wish you had never mentioned the grilled donuts!!!

Way too much spam and people commenting that are stealing my space to post nonsense so.....no comments allowed.
So sorry but I have no other choice.
I love my blogging friends and most of all my family but these spam prone people are so rude and selfish have made my blogging not nearly as much fun..
