Pimento Cheese...A product of the South

Pimento Cheese

"The popularity of this unique spread remains largely confined to states below the Mason-Dixon line, where it assumes its place as a Southern delicacy."

I've loved Pimento Cheese sandwiches all my life.

I like homemade...
store bought...
to me, you just can't "mess up" this delightful cheese.

 What is Pimento Cheese?
To the uninitiated, it’s little more than grated cheese,
chopped pimento peppers, and a little mayonnaise.

To those fans who rank pimento cheese right next to cold fried chicken and deviled eggs as essentials at any proper country picnic, it’s much more.

This recipe for Pimento Cheese is from SOUTHERN LIVING...

Basic Pimento Cheese Recipe
Ingredients

1 1/2 cups mayonnaise
1 (4-oz.) jar diced pimento, drained
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. finely grated onion
1/4 tsp. ground red pepper
1 (8-oz.) block extra-sharp Cheddar cheese, finely shredded
1 (8-oz.) block sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
Stir together first 5 ingredients in a large bowl; stir in cheese. Store in refrigerator up to 1 week.
I have NOT tried the recipe.... so I can't give it a THUMBS UP or DOWN...
Try it at your own risk. :>)
Frankly, I don't like the sound of ONIONS in my spread....

We like PRICE PIMENTO CHEESE from the grocery store.
( this post is not sponsored by Price...my own opinions)

GRILLED Pimento Cheese sandwiches are great, too.
I often do mine in my waffle iron and it works great...

The photo on the left isn't my sandwich but I make
Ham and Pimento Cheese sandwiches, sometimes using my George Forman Grill.

If you will pardon me now,
I am off to make a sandwich....

  4. Hi BJ! You're not going to believe this! I saw your post and ran right over because I made my first batch of pimento cheese yesterday. Can you believe it is not sold up here? It's not! I had two employees at the grocery store running here and there looking for it but it's just not here! I couldn't take it any more and tried Paula Deen's recipe. Love Paula! We ate it right after I'd made it and I liked it but Mr. Precious didn't. I almost cried! So...today and after sitting all night and being cold I made him try it again! Success! He liked it. I guess it must be cold. I miss it so much! I just may try this recipe too! Thanks for posting it. Have a good week, my friend.
    Be a sweetie,

  8. I had never heard of a grilled pimento cheese sandwich until a few years ago. My sisters and I were having our "sister weekend" and one of them suggested making them one night. They have become my favorite. Price is my choice also.

    Yum!

  10. Love a good homemade pimento cheese. Made a batch a couple of weeks ago and when I mentioned it to one of my daughters, she showed up for lunch. It is always better the next day.
