I Luv A Cloudy Day...

It's still a bit cloudy with "chance of rain" still in the forecast....

We'll see how THAT works out for us.

I'm not generally pessimistic but the weather guys have missed the call so often, I'm to the stage of "I gotta see it to believe it..."
Well, slap my doubting face...it rained very gently off and on most the night and, this morning at 7, it is still raining......LOVE IT SO MUCH.

I mentioned repotting some English Ivy in my last post....

and decided to use an old coffee container until I can buy a pretty pot or two...

I can always put the coffee "can" into a pretty basket.....

or any container that I come up with, I guess...:)

Here it is, plopped down into a little galvanized bucket...
...wonder how much it will grow here in the Summer House thru the long summer..??

In keeping with
SWEET NOTHINGS, THE BLOG,

I have to show you what I made for dinner....

Sliced beef sausage, sliced down the middle but not all the way thru....

stuffed with cheese and onions...
a barbeque sauce, liquid smoke and Claude's Marinade...

Slide under the broiler until warmed and cheese is melted....

 SOOO  GOOD !

I served it with HASH BROWNS and seasoned GREEN BEANS...

(these hash browns were the ones in the little carton that you add water and then gently fry in only 2 tablespoons of oil...very good..)

Fruit and jello for dessert and we were HAPPY....:)

XO bj

Lubbock ended up getting about 7 inches of rain over several days and
WE LOVE IT !!

  10. Now I was praying for gentle rain, which is what I hope it is for you. It's raining here again for the umpteenth day in a row, but I can imagine that the gentle sound of rain pattering on the roof is what you are hearing, too. Oh my sakes, BJ! That sausage looks heavenly! What are you trying to do to me?

  11. I have never seen beef sausage that looks like that. What brand is it? And what does the package look like? I think my husband would like that and since it's not pork, it wouldn't disgust me to cook it. LOL I might even try it. Meat just doesn't appeal to me but I nibble on an occasional piece because I know I need protein.

  12. Rain, wonderful, rain! We received just over 3 inches in 3 days! Loved everything about it except, the lightening and thunder woke up one of our dogs every night. My husband loves sausages and your recipe looks like one he will like! Thanks for sharing!

  13. I'm with you BJ, I love a cloudy day too. Now, if there are too many in a row, I get tired of them but ever since I had cataract surgery over a year ago, the sun is BLINDING to me...have to wear my shades even on most cloudy days when I'm driving. And OMGoodness, do those sausages ever look GOOD!!!

  14. Oh man those sausages look yummy! We've had a little rain but still not enough. Smiling that we've gotten a little though.

I still use Google Friend Connect and it works. I recently read an article that said Google+ is a failed project and will likely go away. I hope so - it's very confusing!

  15. Oh my, I never thought of filling a smoked sausage like that but the way my mouth is watering right now I'm going to have to try it! I'm so glad you're getting some rain, maybe the drought is coming to an end?

  16. BJ, I see you like smoked sausages. Here is a recipe for a sausage cheese appetizer we tasted last year when we were in Sonoma, California. I came home and immediately knew I would have to recreate it, we loved it ... so easy and delicious! Since I cannot add a photo in the comments, if you want to see a picture of the finished appetizer email me (wkohr@comcast.net) and I will send you the Word document with the recipe and the picture. Enjoy the rain!

    Cheese and Italian Sausage Appetizer
(adapted from LaSallete Restaurant – A Taste of Portugal in Sonoma, California)

    Ingredients
1 5-ounce link Sweet Italian Sausage, sliced into 1/4" thick disks
3 1/2 ounces Havarti with Dill cheese, cubed into 1" square x 1/4" thickness
    20-25 pitted green olives

    Method
Slice the sausage into 1/4-inch-thick disks (there are about 20-25 disks in each link). Saute in a pan until cooked through.
Place each cheese square onto one sausage disk and set aside.
Prepare 20-25 toothpicks by placing one olive about halfway up each pick.
To serve: preheat oven to 450°F. Place the prepared sausage with cheese pieces onto a sheet tray and bake until the cheese starts to melt. Remove from the oven and skewer each piece with a prepared toothpick. Serve warm.
    Yield: 20-25 appetizers

  17. Glad you're finally getting some rain! The sausage sounds good, we used to split hotdogs, lay them open and melt cheese on top when I was a kid-good stuff:@)

  18. Hi bj ... so happy you are getting a nice slow rain. We got 4.5" over a few days. So great and our grass is green and growing. Hope we get more. The sausage looks good, but not for me. Mr. Z. would love it. Your family pictures are lovely and Stacy is so beautiful and she looks just like you. That necklace is just WOW. The grands are beautiful too ... of course, you know that !!!
