POST FROM THE PAST....
It was warm enuf to think of having an
OUTSIDE FALL TEA PHOTO SHOOT
and that's just what I did.
I put my vintage flatware into my beautiful little
antique pitcher that my Aunt Lillian gave to me so so many years ago.
(I sure would rather have my Aunt Lillian than this ole pitcher !!)
These gorgeous leaves are so perfect, they almost look faux....
CRANBERRY SCONES taste even better served in a pretty way.
Liberty Blue dishes were designed and sold to commemorate America's 1976 Bicentennial (200th anniversary) celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
This blue and white Staffordshire ironstone features different historical scenes.
Some of the historic occasions depicted on the china are: Washington crossing the Delaware, Lafayette landing at West Point, the Boston Tea Party, Paul Revere on horseback, Old North Church, Ben Franklin, Mt. Vernon - George Washington's Home, Monticello - Thomas Jefferson's Home, Independence Hall, Washington leaving Christ Church, and Betsy Ross - the nation's first flag.
I also have a magnificent collection of
BLUE WINDMILL
canister sets...
I started collecting them over 50 years ago when I bought a box of unknown content from our local train station
in their UNCLAIMED FREIGHT section.
When I opened the box, it was full of these beautiful blue windmill pieces, all made in Germany.
I fell totally and forever in love and have collected every since.
O, yes indeed....
a glorious day for an AUTUMN TEA.

I can just imagine your delight when you opened up that box and saw the windmill pieces!! Yahoo! Your blue dishes are beautiful, too, and they look so sweet in an outdoor setting. You've made me want to make scones, I always crave them in the fall.
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane

ReplyDeleteWish that I had a set of those commemorative dishes. I do have a cookie jar liberty bell from the time. What an interesting way to acquire your German set. Love those windmills and the crisp blue and white.
ReplyDeleteHi, I love your blue china! My mom used to have this china too and it reminds me of hers. Wishing you a wonderful week. Julie
ReplyDeleteBeautiful table setting bj ... love the blue dishes ... so sweet and inviting. I collected a few of the windmill dishes, but think I have gotten rid of all of them. They are very pretty.
ReplyDeleteTake care and get some rest. This month is flying by and December is always hectic. Hope you are all settled by then.
Blessings,
Audrey Z @ Timeless Treasures
What a gorgeous post. I love a bit of blue and white. I gave my oldest daughter almost my complete collection of blue/white Willow ware. I just love it but not so sure she does-she has it packed away for now. Hope you are having a wonderful time in your new home. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteDoes not matter if it is a rerun. I do not remember it and enjoyed seeing your blues and hearing about them. I tried sending you an email, but not sure if it went through.
ReplyDeletebj these dishes are so pretty! I'm still unpacking and purging and trying to find places for all my stuff. I have blue dishes somewhere! I'll look for them after Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThe blue and white dishes are so pretty and the windmill canisters go well with them. As I read how you got the windmill pieces; imagine someone reading your blog and thinking 'so that's what happened to our collection'! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the reflection of the trees in the tea and the autumn leaves look stunning against the blue dishes. Have a wonderful week:)

ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous story of how you came to acquire your Dutch canisters!
Also, your Liberty dishes are beautiful and wonderful reminder of how freedom was sought.
It is a beautiful table you've set! Love the Liberty dishes and blue is a favorite color of mine. I have a few plates in the Liberty that I found in a flea market, but I'm still looking for cups/saucers, etc. I will get the plates out and use them tomorrow! Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteI love the images on the teaset, telling a story.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty table setting. The blue & white dishes are lovely. I enjoyed your windmill canister story. The canister is beautiful.. Enjoy your new week!

Happy Blue Monday!
Beautiful photographed and said. Have a blessed day. Madeline
ReplyDeletethe liberty blue dishes are an amazing shade of blue and what a find in that railway box, I love them.Your photo shoot is beautiful and the cranberry scones sound amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteOh I love the Blue Windmill tea canister! How wonderful to find a whole collection -- whoever would not want to claim them!
ReplyDeleteBlue is probably my least favorite color, but you make it look very pretty. And actually - I got married in 1979 and we had a set of those blue dishes. That was many, many years ago, tho..... not a one of them is left. Probably because I am not a fan of the color blue so it matches nothing in my house. LOL
ReplyDeleteOooohh, what a beautiful set! Looks so inviting.
ReplyDeleteSome of my favorite dishes photographed so beautifully!
ReplyDeleteWhew! When you posted a few days ago that you had pared down your dish collection, these were the first thing I thought of, surely you hadn't gotten rid of your beautiful blue dishes! I'm glad to hear they just haven't been unpacked yet:>) Still, if you ever feel the need to simplify more.....call me ;>)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blue photos!
ReplyDeleteMonday greetings, RW & SK
BJ, so glad I found you once again. I wouldn't want to miss any of your posts (already have but I will catch up).

Oh, I love, love, love your blue dishes! Swooning here...
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, I love those blue dishes and the vignette is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Is it considered willow ware?? Thank you for remembering and honoring our veterans today.
ReplyDeleteI love those blue Liberty dishes and what a gorgeous setting with the leaves, bj! The scones look so pretty the way you have them displayed. I sure would love one, being the scone lover that I am. xo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blue dishes! I always enjoy my Spode's Blue Italian - blue puts one into such a good mood! Britta
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I'm addicted to blue and white too!
ReplyDeleteI love this and I love the pattern. YOU made my day . Thanks for such loveliness LOL hugs my friend and have a blessed new week
ReplyDeleteGood morning bj, We are home again and so happy to be in our own 'bed.' Smile. I too love these blue dishes and remember them coming out to celebrate our bicentennial celebration. My sister has the complete set. I have never had blue dishes or anything blue in my kitchen. However, I really admire them so much.
ReplyDeleteYour post is lovely in blue and white and the German canisters were a wonderful find. I have never bought an unknown box but I know it would be a great fun, mysterious and exciting thing to do.
Love you bunches,
Jeanne
Gorgeous dishes! I have Liberty Blue, but not that adorable cream and sugar you have. You set these photos up beautifully, BJ! Also love the shelf Mr. Sweets made for you!!!
