Little Lights

About this time every year, right after Halloween,
I start thinking of a centerpiece for our
THANKSGIVING TABLE...

I don't like a really large or tall centerpiece...

I LOVE using candles but
I don't use scented  candles when serving a meal.

I like real flowers ....
but they are generally too tall for a centerpiece
so I put my bouquets on the side tables.

The above photo and wonderful idea is from
KAREN at
TO WORK WITH MY HANDS blog and she
graciously gave me permission to share her lovely photos and idea.

She turns her stemware upside down and uses them for the most gorgeous candlesticks...

I would never have thought to do this...

I did put candles INSIDE my vintage Buttermilk Goblets
for an Autumn table setting several years ago.

The vintage goblets are etched and the candle light inside really made them sparkle.

I can't wait to try HER beautiful trick...

I think The Dollar Tree Store has some great stemware
priced so so low
and this would make such a great centerpiece for our
THANKSGIVING TABLE.

I hope you will post ideas on Thanksgiving Centerpieces...

  1. Beautiful. I have used my glasses for candles. I learned the trick from my hubby's bosses assistant years ago who loved design.

  2. Yes. The dollar tree is the best place to find this stuff. I did the upside down wine glass trick one New Years. I put little battery candles inside also. This gave it an extra glow. You can see it here on this 4 year old post. Mine are not near as pretty as you show here. Perhaps Ill try this on my table for Christmas. Im a little more crafty now than I was then. haha. http://lifeawayfromtheofficechair.blogspot.com/2012/01/twenty-twelve.html

  3. BJ, Both are lovely ideas. I like yours as the flame is not exposed to anyone's touch. I love those battery powered flicker candles...but some are so pricy. I really like the decorations. So hard to believe it's almost the holidays. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

  6. Ohhh...I have some of those dollar store stemware finds...with a leaf motif. Maybe I'll do over my kitchen windowsill for this coming Thanksgiving week. Thanks for the idea!

  8. I have always used wine glasses for candle holders. Love the way the glass sparkles.

    God bless.

  9. Yeah- isn't that a cute idea? I have used wine glasses in the past as candle holders, too. I have even set them up on little bowls turned upside down to give them a little boost height-wise.
Hope you are planning a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family. xo Diana

  13. Dollar Tree is awesome. We have a similar store in town called Mighty Dollar. Same concept but a lot of their products suck

  14. I love the idea of turning the stemware upside down and adding candles to the 'top'. I saw this idea on Pinterest just yesterday. A few years ago I bought two amber-colored stemware glasses at WalMart and I've used them for candles in the Fall and at Thanksgiving every since. They have the nicest Fall color that shows well when the candles are lit. Not sure yet what I'll do on my table this year. Guess I'd better figure it out pretty soon. It will just be three of us this year - my dear, little mother, my sweetheart and me. My mama can't handle the big family gatherings anymore so we are keeping it very simple. For her.

  19. Love it. I noticed you used the rippled edge floral vase for the flatware. What a great idea. I have on that I've kept and wondered what to do with it! I loved your post. Thanks for linking and putting the party on your list! Enjoy your weekend.

  20. The photos are beautiful! I love using stemware in unusual ways and upside down always works! :) There's just nothing better than candlelight, even if you're just having a sandwich.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  21. What a sweet pleasure to visit you here, and I'm totally honored that you shared my post with your readers.
I absolutely love your etched vintage goblets. They are nearly exactly the same as those my grandparents had - minus the etching - but I remember vividly those little round intentions. My granddaddy loved iced Coca-Cola and I watched him drink countless goblets full of it! This brings back such precious memories - thank you!

Blogging at 79??? What an amazing inspiration you are - you certainly inspire me.

Wishing you and yours a beautiful Thanksgiving!

  24. Beautiful ideas, and if you had faceted or colored goblets that would be a cute look too! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I know you have so much to be thankful for with your beautiful, big family!

  25. Candles look so pretty with the Fall colors! Happy Thanksgiving my friend! Hugs!

  26. Yes, I do the same, BJ -- low flowers for the table and no scented candles. That's my rule, more or less, anyway, as most scents send me into allergy fits. These are really terrific ideas. And I adore your white pumpkins at the beginning of this post! Happy Turkey Week!

  27. Happy Pink Saturday, dear friend. I don't like a tall centerpiece or scented candles on my table either. I do often make small bouquets in small vases which I line down the center of my table. I like this idea with the glasses, too.

  28. The goblet shaped glass look so pretty with the candles. This is a great centerpiece.
