I love thrifting...
I love going to all the thrift shops and love finding things I can paint and make my own...
Especially love VINTAGE....like this wooden magazine rack.
Since my favorite colors on the planet (for now) are
turquoise...aqua...robin egg blue....duck egg blue....
that's the colors I am looking for.
I like the color of my WELCOME sign...
the watering can...
especially love the washed aqua of the BEATLE/BEETLE pillow.
I adore this BAHAMA..or is it BERMUDA color inside my black hutch (the post on it is HERE)
BUT.....
I've really been wanting to try ANNIE SLOAN Chalk Paint.
I mean, everywhere I turn, I hear rave reviews about it.
This is UNIQUE RABBIT
and they sell.....
I walked right in like I knew what the heck I was doing and, there, on a large
table right by the door,
they had little painted pieces of wood in all the colors.
It only took one glance and I
SAW and FELL IN LUV...
PROVENCE
ahhh, the Frenchness of it all...
a soft almost "washed-out" aqua...
I just love it when I find a paint color that I LOVE....
(daughter accuses me of choosing my paint by their names....
like Natural Wicker or Bermuda OR Bahama Blue....)
and then....
I took another look at that magazine rack and
all I could see were
SPINDLES...
20 little tiny round
SPINDLES...
Wish me luck 'cause I'm not

No, neither am I, which is how I talk myself out of so many painting chores. That color is beautiful, though. It'll keep you calm as you go. All the best!
ReplyDeleteshocked you haven't used ASCP yet. It's like a drug, so don't open that can of paint unless you're willing to get an addiction!
ReplyDeleteI'm into blue at this stage in life, too, so I love all the blue in this post!
ReplyDeleteHa! I've been accused of choosing my drinks because of their names, LOL! Love these colors and your new thrifting piece!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's a good piece! You can do it, you can do it! Can't wait til it's finished.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Pretty color! I know you can do it! Just put a very small amount of paint on the brush for the spindles and let dry....do several light coats instead of one heavy coat. You got this!
ReplyDeleteHave to confess, blue is not a personal favorite - but your enthusiasm is contagious!
ReplyDeleteI, too, keep hearing about chalk paint (it looks good enuff to sip - lol), but I'm too bashful to try. Can't wait to see the transformation, BJ!
The magazine rack will be wonderful painted blue!
ReplyDeleteIt will look terrific and you can do it. You are very talented and the chalk paint is very forgiving. Can't wait to see the transformation.
ReplyDeleteMary
Love the duck egg blue but Providence is right up there.
ReplyDeleteLove it too. Can't wait to see the finished product! XXOO
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your spindles!
ReplyDeleteI am attracted to pretty named paints, too. :D
(And I really like the aqua hues)>
Beautiful colors! Spindles? Ugg.. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Gert
The blues are so beautiful. Gorgeous shades. And i have a magazine rack just like yours... but it's not painted.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful color . . . I can't wait to see your finished piece . . .
ReplyDeleteQuite the buy for $6.00 . . . you go girl!
It will be so charming . . .
You should check out Valspar Chalky Paint, it's not as expensive as Annie Sloan and they can color match any of their colors.
ReplyDeleteBJ you are very talented and always happy to share so we can learn. Pop on over to Mountain Breaths if you have time....I know you'd enjoy the barn sale ;o)
ReplyDeleteI've always leaned toward traditional wood grain but you are tempting me.
ReplyDeleteBJ, can't wait to see the results of the painting. I'm sure you can do it, and I do like the color.
ReplyDeleteHello BJ, what a great find. And I love the Aqua color. I can not wait to see your finished piece! Happy Sunday, have a great new week ahead!
ReplyDeleteI love the vintage magazine rack too! I would love to visit the Thrift Shop too. Enjoy the painting!
ReplyDeleteChoosing paint, by name... Is there any other way?????????????????? ,-)
ReplyDeleteBut that magazine rack.... All I see, looking at that, is all those things to DUST!!! Nope, I am not a jolly duster! -grin-
Tessa
That's a great find, but you're right about the spindles. You could consider spray paint for the spindles (maybe white or a reasonably close color), the chalk for the rest with some of the chalk on the spindles, then sanded a bit or aged up, so it would look like it goes together. If you do something like that, spray first!
ReplyDeleteJust love the magazine rack. Love the color you are going to paint it. I know you will do a great job. Looking forward to seeing the finished project. Have a blessed day. Madeline
ReplyDeleteBJ, I laughed about what your daughter said. :):) I do like that very pale aqua. Now I am eager to see the finished project. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteI am sure that this piece will make a wonderful addition to your collection....
ReplyDelete.. and such nice shades of "Blue"... have a pleasant Sunday, dear Lady...
Nice magazine rack bj ... I am not fond of painting spindles either, but maybe doing a couple of light coats will make it easier. Good luck and have fun.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday.

You go girl. This will look beautiful when done. Doing light coats on the spindles will make the job seem easier. Happy Sunday.
ReplyDeleteKris
Wonderful post :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week !

Oh I laughed when I heard that your daughter accuses you of choosing paint colors by the name. My husband says that about me. And I confess that it does. So much so that now I cover the names when choosing a color and try not to let myself be influenced. It's hard. Love the color, love the name. Your magazine rack will look gorgeous. Keep a dry-ish brush so it won't drip.
ReplyDeleteIt's gonna be so cute!!! Can't wait to see it, and I'm really looking forward to hearing what you think of the paint.
ReplyDeleteWhen do we get to see the Transformed Magazine Rack? ;)
ReplyDeleteFishing for Lost Shadows
I find blue very calming. Looks great, and what a cool magazine rack.
