Cherries At Christmas Time

After Mr. Sweet passed away,
I developed, for the first time EVER,
GOUT...
noun: gout; plural noun: gouts
  1. 1.
a disease in which defective metabolism of uric acid causes arthritis, especially in the smaller bones of the feet, deposition of chalk stones,
     and episodes of acute pain.
    *********************
It is one of the most painful arthritis conditions there is.
 ***********
While Mr. Sweet had it in his feet,
mainly his big toe was affected.

When GOUT decided to strike me,
I had the inflammation in all my joints.
It was the most painful of anything I've ever experienced.
The stress of losing Mr. Sweet brought on a severe flareup.

My doctor started me on medications that have helped tremendously
and when I was told to eat a lot of
CHERRIES,
I was elated...
I. LUV. CHERRIES.....
Being able to eat lots of CHERRIES made up (a little bit)
for having GOUT.

Since CHERRY PIE is my favorite,
these little CHERRY HAND PIES
are perfect for me.

If you have to have something that hurts a lot,
I think it's a fabulous blessing to be able to eat a favorite food
and it helps you to feel better.

 XOXO

  2. BJ, I sure do hope those cherries are helping you. I have heard gout is awful. I love those pies, they look so tasty. I do believe in home remedies. This sounds like a good one. Before all this medical insurance and no doctors any more. They all want to be specialist...we may all be looking into home cures. Hope you are doing well. I know this will be a tough holiday for you....just remember you are loved, by many. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  12. I HAVE BEEN BLESSED AND NEVER HAD THIS. MY BROTHER-IN-LAW HAS IT AWFUL IN HIS BIG TOE. ON SOME KIND OF DRUG, THAT HELPS THE PAIN, BUT DOES NOT Eliminate the CAUSE. BE CAREFUL AS I UNDERSTAND IT CAN EFFECT YOUR DRIVING. YOU WILL DO A LOT BETTER AFTER THE HOLIDAYS. HANG IN. NEVER WOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF EATING CHERRIES. I WILL HAVE TO TELL HIM.

  13. I use cherries as medicine too and it's amazing how it works. Same with tart cherry juice. The straight stuff. Oh my gosh. Saying that, I'm sorry you hurt. Did they tell you about dairy and sugar contributing to the swelling as well?

  22. Dear bj! You've suffered emotionally and physically. I'm so sorry!
I've had many friends with gout, and they've been told about drinking dark (or black)cherry juice. Some it helped and some not. I sure hope yours will be gone soon!

I pray that having family near for Christmas helps as you go through this year of "firsts" without Mr. Sweet. <3

  32. I just wanted to share that Stinging Nettle Root is wonderful for gout. I know of two cases, personally, that the person was instantly relieved from it. This is not the nettle capsules that you buy in a bottle, but you have to specifically get the actual nettle root. I know it sounds insane, but you hold the stinging nettle root about an inch above the inflamed area, and it will actually pull the gout out. Stinging nettle grows wild in some places, or if you have a local health food store, they should be able to either provide it or point you in the right direction, in case you are interested in trying it. Black cherry juice is also very good for gout. I hope you feel better soon.

  33. Hi BJ ... sorry you have gout. That is so painful. Mr. Z. had a terrible case of it in his arms and legs when in the hospital. He could not stand anyone to touch him or even get close to his hands. He takes a med now, just in case and I have been giving him black cherry juice. No signs of gout now. Take care... have a great Christmas. I need to make some of your little cherry hand pies for Christmas. Do you have a blog post with the recipe?
Warm hugs, my friend. We had a sprinkling of snow tonight.
    Love,
    Audrey Z.

  34. I like your Doc! What a great thing to suggest, I would have never thought it, but I am a firm believer in the healing power of food. I'm keeping everything crossed for you BJ that you are feeling less pain from the gout soon. Keep eating them cherries!
