Cabin style...

While I still have CHRISTMAS pictures to share,
I need a bit more time to get them organized
and into posts...

In the meantime.......

CABIN STYLE DECORATING
is beginning to show up
IN MY DREAMS....

I never EVER thought I would be loving it as much
as I find myself doing....
it's all about WHITE painted walls....
the light, white of Cabin Style has made me "cross over the line".....
in my dreams only....
maybe I can add "cabin style" features slowly around the summer house.

I can't do those beautiful white, planked walls...
but we do have some gorgeous paneling I could have painted white.....
and I've never been a fan of deer heads of any kind on my walls...
surely I can add something else to get the same effect....
hmmmm ??

I so love this stone fireplace...
and all the brown leather furniture we are all buying now
REALLY goes nicely with the CABIN STYLE decorating.....
           ♥
and while I don't care for deer heads...
I absolutely LOVE antler chandeliers  ....
but they are SOOO expensive.

...loving the rustic Christmas sign...
and the bundle of birch logs is so great here.

There's those gorgeous white planked walls again....
is that called "ship lap" ?

Even with cabin style, I still prefer WHITE walls...

Most of these photos are from BETTER HOMES...

maybe it's all the PLAIDS showing up that make cabin style
so lovable...
plaids and brown leather furniture...

I absolutely LUV this natural wood table
paired with turquoise chairs...

Our daughter, Stacy, is having her lake house painted...
and for her kitchen cabinets, she chose white uppers
and light, beachy aqua for the lowers...
and it is so swoon-worthy, I lose my breath just thinking of it....
I don't have a picture yet of her finished kitchen but will soon.

...loving the gray painted flooring and walls here...

Altho the bench is a little thick and heavy for my liking,
it looks fabulous in this setting...

and look how GREAT that very simple shelf with hooks looks
with cute items hanging from it....

There's things about this kitchen I am not fond of...
the bar stools...
not a fan of wooden floors UNLESS they are in the more beachy white or grays.....
but, boy, do I love that high, planked ceiling...

The summer house dining room and kitchen has a very high ceiling
with wooden beams and it all would be drop-dead-gorgeous painted.
(i'm saving my money....)

...AGAIN...the stone fireplace and white walls with natural beams
makes my heart skip a couple of beats....
who wouldn't love a light, airy room like this ?

...from Better Homes web site.

...white walls...
gray furniture...
SWOON WORTHY
(but that bull head on her wall gives me the creeps)

I am going to cover my leather ottoman with my
gray and white afghan and put a tray on it, minus those antlers....
Gotta get busy and tackle more of the Christmas stuff
get it packed in tubs and taken to the storage room.

Hope you have a great day.....

  1. Cabin, farmhouse...just so cozy and inviting despite all the white walls. You walk in and instantly feel at home and relaxed.

  2. I don't blame you for loving that rustic white/cabin look!! It's a totally different decor than I have, too, espeically with those deer heads and antlers...not for me, but I rally like the plaids and more "rustic" touches.

OK...is that beautiful rustic pie made with PW's recipe? And if so.....why did yours turn out so beautifully and mine looked like something a 2 yr old made? :) My dough was stiff...and yes..I let it warm up before rolling it out. :) It kept breaking and falling apart. However, it was so yummy, that it didn't matter cuz we ate up both of the pies!! :) Did you refrigerate yours right after making the dough or did you complete the pie recipe right then and bake them? I should have added some more water to the dough but it can't be done easily after it's been refrigerated.

Thanks for such a lovely post!!

  4. I like more nautical charm but with the cabin cozy feel. White and rustic!!! My house has brown paneling in the kitchen and den and I hate it. Husband doesnt want to put much money into fixing it up because we look to move in a year or so. My next place will not have paneling!!!!

  11. Beautiful pictures! When people walk through our house they say it reminds them of a cabin in the woods. Unfortunately I have no decorating sense! I love all your ideas though!

  12. Oh, how pretty! You made me laugh with your comments about deer heads on the wall! They sort of give me the creeps, too. My husband had the first deer he shot mounted when he was a teenager, and up until our minimalism journey, we still had it. I always felt it was staring at me!! He gifted it to a deer hunter who has a teenage son who acted like it thrilled him to pieces to get it. While it meant the world to me knowing it was something my dear hubby cherishes, I can't say I am crying that it is gone from our home!! LOL!

  13. those were fun pictures to look at. I love the planked walls as well, when they are horizontal and not vertical. My Ma-Maw had the horizontal ones so many many years ago...back then it wasn't considered "trendy" or anything else really---just walls! ha ha LOL I hope to do our walls like that someday. From what I've seen online, it's not TOO big a project to do actually.

  16. BJ have fun dreaming up how to add touches of cabin style into your home. I am sure it will look inviting cozy and warm. Oh and the deer head... I have one made from French newspapers in Papier Mâché you get the fun without the real head hanging. Wishing you a wonderful New Years celebration.

  19. I love these inspirational pictures, but can never imagine that I will ever be able to have rooms like those unless I sell everything I have and start all over again. But after 66½ years of marriage, I don't see that happening. Fun to dream.
Happy New Year to you and Mr. Sweet.
    Hugs,

  22. All these photos have a little spark of you in them, BJ so I can see why you fell in love with each.

BTW, I was scrolling through my saved recipes & came across your little two peaches that you turned into dessert with oats & cinnamon & pecans. YUM!
You mentioned that you would someday share your sweet Mother's coconut custard recipe that you wrangled out of her. I've really got a taste for something like that about now. Any chance you can remember it & post it for us??
Wishing you & Mr. Sweet a blessed & most importantly, a HEALTHY New Year!
