Bits and Bobs of Valentine's Day Aftermath

Mr. Sweet is fighting a round of gout....
and now is coming down with a cold....
so he is feeling rotten.

We didn't do our regular Valentine's Day dinner out...
we didn't go to our Home Fellowship Gathering on Sunday night.
Staying in and he is taking ZYCAM and hoping it cuts his cold short.
The past year and into the new one, has been hard for him.

...a key to my heart

My mother and daddy on the left...

Uncle Otis and friend...
sometime in the late 40's
no date on the picture
She was so beautiful and so young here....

I HAVE to add this comment...it just melted my heart...
racheld has left a new comment on your post "Bits and Bobs of Valentine's Day Aftermath":

Awww, Sweetpea! The picture of your folks just made my day! Your Mama in that nice dress and the finger-wave and pearls, and your Daddy's gorgeous Marty Robbins hair---now THEN was when folks knew how to dress for an evening out! I think "our" generation after them sorta spelled the end of that era, a bit---we also knew about dressing for occasions, with dotted Swiss and pique' and even those scratchy nylon "bought" dresses, and our stocking seams just so.

And just the sight of that cuff on your Uncle Otis's pants---you KNOW the guys did that little back-up-to-the-chair-and-grab-
a-pinch-of-the-pleat to gently pull up a bit of the fabric in front before sitting down, to avoid knee-springing their good slacks. I can just SMELL the Old Spice and Evening in Paris in that room, right now. And I can hear my own college friend Kay, who was from "Lubbick" and had the most delightful Texas accent, like but not quite like my own Mississippi drawl.

What a sweet memory---my ideas of dressing up and grooming nicely all came from my parents and aunts and uncles in their shantung and serge outfits, scented vaguely with Kools and Coty and Chanel, and so many of my favorite pictures of them all have them smiling into the sun on a Sunday afternoon, wearing just those clothes and those expressions.

Thank you thank you for such a trip down that old familiar lane.

Stay well and warm---we're 25 and three inches on the ground.

rachel

Cute jar ideas for NEXT year...

the same idea would work for the SMUCKERS jelly jars
with their cute plaid lids...
I am saving all my jars...:)
*

...they are all so cute...
I hope I can do this next year....
I especially love the white one with black heart stickers and red straws...

 ...my Valentine flowers

just add water to the BOTTOM of the bulbs...

they will thrive in  bright light,
away from direct heat.....

and...yes...i just added beautiful silk faux tulips
until these are ready to bloom on their own.

don't they look REAL....

Love,
bj

  6. So sorry your sweet fella is hurting, my mom, my son-in-law AND my brother-in-law had/has it, and it hurts like the dickens. I am sending up some prayer for him so this episode of it goes away fast.

Keep in mind that certain foods can trigger bouts of it - bread does it for them sometimes.

Big hugs - have a good week, friend. ♥

  12. Oh gosh, sorry to hear about the gout. My son-in-law has that and takes medicine daily to keep it at bay. Loving your valentine sacks...I just filled the "kind of a big deal" sacks times 6 for my grands. It's 46 here, and no snow expected. Spring seems to be trying to get her foot in the door way before she is due. Have a blessed Monday!

  14. Hi BJ,
First of all, I have to say your parents are one handsome couple! Now we all know where you got your good looks. Sorry about your hubby's gout. My mom has it too right now. No fun!
The mason jar candles are adorable. So many wonderful ideas and the tulips look like springtime.
I have looked into the blog that stole my page today and it is being handled. It will be blocked very shortly. Thank you for sharing and joining me today.

    Blessings,

  17. Oh poor Mr. Sweet, I hope he is better fast! Gout must be awful. UGH! LOOOVE the picture of your parents and Aunt and Uncle! Like Rachel said: they sure could DRESS back then. I still LOVE to get dressed up to go out. My Joe, not at all:):) My friends are always saying I am always "so put together", LOL! Loved the Valentine's ideas. I was at a breakfast this morning and the hostess had the same tulips, and hers were already blooming. SO pretty. Great idea to add the fauxs til yours bloom!!!

  20. BJ so sorry for Mr. Sweets I just know you are pampering him. John and I stayed in yesterday and relaxed and just goofed around. Your tulips are the same brand I purchased at Christmas time in memory of my Max cat. They grow beautifully and has sent me into forcing bulb heaven. Right now rooting in a very tall vase in the basement are Purple Truimphs, just wait my sassy friend you too will be hooked on buying bulbs to force.

  22. Surprise! I got a new laptop today and I am setting it up. I decided one way to test it out was to make a visit and type something. I am sorry to hear your Mr. is under the weather, I know I have missed so much over the past months. Time certainly flies when you are moving, redoing a house and having some medical stuff too. I have been thinking lately of getting back to the blogging. I miss it and I miss some of my favorite people. I am not sure what I will write about. The house is almost done, but I don't plan on redecorating any time soon. I suppose once I start writing, it will just fall back into place.

  27. Gout is so painful ~ hoping he feels better soon! Love that photo ~ such treasures from the past. Cute ideas with all the jars! I was always kissing the grands and scaring the parents with red marks on them. They finally got it ~ Mimi's lipstick! :) Alex used to say, "Mimi, let's have a kiss attack!" Loved it!
