Bits and Bob # 44 1/2

Before I came down with this cold from h***,
I went thrifting with my good friend.

We love to get off every now and then and eat lunch at a cool place...
and then hit all the thrifting shops we have time for.

I was already about to come down with this cold and got tired after
lunch and only two shops......BUMMER...

The first  shop had two large ironstone platters and I came home with both.

I'm trying to get enuf to hang on each side of the living room fireplace.

Both are in excellent condition...

I wouldn't mind a bit of discoloration
and crazed a little bit.

CRAZED:
Produce a network of fine cracks on (a surface):

I haven't hung them yet..will as soon as I feel better, tho.

I have to change out decor on the mantel from winter to summer.

the price for these beauties is just plain CRAZY

While nothing much tastes good when you are sick with a cold,
(even my coffee tastes HORRIBLE)
CORNBREAD always tastes good to me.

My dad always wanted cornbread and buttermilk when he was sick..

It's not only good for the body...
it's good for the spirit and the soul.

just add BUTTERMILK instead of regular milk in your favorite CORNBREAD recipe
and you'll have a whole new TASTE TREAT....

Last week....the week BEFORE I caught the cold,
friends and I went shopping.....again....

I have a thang for lamps...
I just love them..

especially when they are the most gorgeous aqua/robin egg blue color...
I swooned all the way up to the check-out counter at KIRKLAND'S.

One of my friends said, "UH OH...
look, it's been scratched...the paint is coming off..."

"Where HAVE you been, my sweet friend..?"

After explaining distressed....and....
shabby.....and.....IN....
she said...".uhhhh.......OOO...."
and I saw her eyes roll as she turned her head...
hahhaaa....gotta love it.

On my way home, it dawned on me that us olden ladies....especially those without blogs, really have no way to keep up with changing trends....magazines, I guess.

if it weren't for my girl and grandgirls, I might still be wearing bell bottom pants and polyester tops.
We'd get those poly bell bottoms so tight, we had trouble just sitting down
I remember one time, buying a pair and having the alteration lady pin them up on me and she got them so tight, she pinned the pants to my skin in one place.
Now, that's a hair TOO TIGHT...
:>)

I really love my new lamp....even if it's "scratched and paint coming off in places..."

My friend, Martha, bought this sweet little platter for me as
a "just because" gift...
she knew I'd love it in all it's black and white beauty.

She also gifted me with this beautiful cross...
she found it and the little platter at CRACKER BARREL, on the clearance table.
Thanks for thinking of me, Martha.

Those are my mama's scissors in that blue wooden box...

Stacy & Jent went to MARTHA'S VINEYARD last summer
and when she came home, she had some of her outstanding photos
made into the prettiest mouse pads.

The above is one she gave me for Christmas..
(I just realized I'd not shared it with you before...
.that's why I LUV BITS & BOBS  so much...)

oops.....
I nearly forgot this cute little canvas basket with bikes all over it from Ross....
nothing says SPRING AND SUMMER like bicycles...

You might remember this little bike pillow I bought last summer.

That's it...that's all I've got....

Love to all of you, bj

Swinging at these great parties:

  7. BJ sending well wishes to you and hope you feel better very quickly. Cornbread I love with ice cold 2% milk, but Buttermilk I only use in recipes. Your platters look pretty, always love it when you're out and come home with a new found treasure. My nose is running and my ears are clogged but I'm thinking its Spring allergies because trees are budding in Philadelphia.
    sending hugs and kisses

  8. Yes, you are a pretty hip gal! Your friend must not notice your home when she visits, but now she will. Those platters are the perfect price. Now I am trying to imagine how you'll use them on your mantel.

  10. Sorry you have come down with such a cold. I hope you will be feeling better before Easter.

You always find the best things when you go shopping. So many items at the Goodwill where I sometimes go are chipped or damaged to the point where they are way beyond shabby/chic. Those ironstone dishes you found are great and were amazingly low priced.

I love your pretty blue/green lamp, too. I would like some day to fix up a room using that color and other similar shades and display my blue/green vases and glassware in the windows. Right now, though it's the time of year to spend as much time as possible getting stuff done out in the yard and flower beds.

Your corn bread looks so delicious. Anytime I see it here on your blog, I end up making it within a day or two. My husband loves corn bread. When you wrote about your dad, it reminded me of how my mom would eat either regular white bread or cornbread if we had any, broke up into a cup of cold milk, when her stomach was hurting her. I hadn't thought about that in years.

I hope your cold goes away quickly. Take care.

  25. Colds are so not fun. I do hope you are over yours soon. Looks like some great finds. I like the lamp. Now if it was me I would take one of my Copic markers and try to match the shade of the lamp and color over the scratch if I could.

  28. Your cornbread looks so yum.
You've got pretty treasures from your thrifting.
I'm afraid to buy crazed items from flee markets
because I'm afraid they would just cracked when I get home
at least from t his post I learned they can still last and can be used.
