~ COFFEE ~.....the Necture of the GODS

OOO, yes, indeedy....

I do love COFFEE.

Tea and Hot Chocolate
have their place
but  COFFEE
is the drink for me.

I post about my favorite vintage cups all the time...
because I just love them...
and
because a sweet blogging friend sent them to me
one time as a  "JUST BECAUSE" gift.

THOSE are the best kind, don't 'cha know.
:>)
I use them ALL THE TIME.

 I have my favorite coffees....

this one is hard to beat for an
instant cup of deliciousness....
I love ANYthing ORANGE...:)

I've been drinking it for years....
it was also a favorite of my mom's and we shared a cup often.
I can just smell the fragrance of this coffee and see my mama's face every single time.

I love good memories.....

There's so many great coffee flavors out there now.

I can remember when it was pretty much

FOLGERS...and MAXWELL HOUSE...

...and when they came out with DUNKIN' DONUTS,
they really hit the nail on the head as far as I was concerned.

I am seriously thinking of asking it to marry me.

I like to review, for your pleasure,(:) new food items that I discover.
Most of the time, they aren't really NEW.....just new to ME. :)

When I saw these in the freezer section, I thought...
"goood breakfast sandwich.."
soft pretzel
deli ham
swiss cheese...

So I came home with a couple of boxes (2 sandwiches in ea box)

These are good....
the only thing that keeps them from being delicious is that there's not nearly
enuf ham....nor cheese.

I'm glad to have another box of them in the freezer....
but not sure I'd buy them again.

This day last week started off beautifully but the wind "got up..."

and when the wind "gets up " out here in West Texas,
the sand blows most of the time.

And that's just what happened this  particular afternoon.

The photo on the left was taken BEFORE the wind and sand....a beautiful morning.

We watch this pretty pool all the time and it's almost like being on a continuous  cruise.

WE LOVE IT......

A Day in the Life of Sweet Nothings

You know how you hear a song and it get sooo stuck in your head, it just ALmost
drives you nuts.
Even a happy, fun song like

"ZIP-A-DEE-DOO-DAH
ZIP-A-DEE-AY
MY OH MY
WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY....."
...even this can DRIVE YOU NUTS....

BUT....they've been advertising the LIZZIE BORDEN tv movie  all week long...
and the song they play has stuck in my head and  I  DON'T  LIKE  IT....!

"LIZZIE BORDEN TOOK AN AX
AND GAVE HER MOTHER 40 WACKS...
WHEN SHE SAW WHAT SHE HAD DONE,
SHE GAVE HER FATHER 41 "

GOOD GRIEF !!

ok, now I am humming
"WHEN THE SAINTS.....
GO MARCHING IN.....
O, WHEN THE SAINTS....GO....MARCHING ....IN.."

HOPEFULLY, this is the song that will get stuck in my head this week !!

(oh, and I googled Lizzie Borden and she was tried and found NOT GUILTY...what do YOU think..? )
****************************
Moving into more PLEASANT THINGS....

My heart always skips a beat when I see
 Mr. Sweet
getting tools gathered.

The sight of a hammer...
ruler....
screws....

makes me know I am about to get my
undercounter lights
mounted....

I've had them taped
to the underside for a week now,
just making sure where I wanted them.

and he got them
JUST PERFECT.....

"Thanks, Mr. Sweet...
now I don't have to hear
the sound of tape  pulling away from the wood..."

Have I ever blogged about this adorable MUG RUG...?

My sweet bloggy friend, KATHY, sent this to me a few years back and I just absolutely LUV it....

RED....with BLACK AND WHITE......

and polka dots on the reverse side.....

 What's NOT to luv....!!!!

"THANKS, KATHY...
I use it all the time, right here beside my computer...."

XOXO, bj

OATMEAL...the Breakfast of Champions...O, or is that WHEATIES...??

G'morning, all....

The first blog I looked at this morning, with my first cup of coffee of the day,  showed
 HOMEMADE COOKIES.....
Well, nothing else sounded good to me for breakfast.....
no, ma'am...
it HAD TO BE COOKIES.....HOMEMADE COOKIES......!!.

SOURCE OF PHOTO AND RECIPE

OATMEAL PECAN COOKIES by the Barefoot Contessa  sounded like a WINNER to me....
(I love that woman...she can cook...she's such a gentle soul....and so pretty.)

If YOU like OATMEAL Cookies, here's her recipe and I think nearly 300 comments on the cookies were

                                                                          5 STAR....
THAT'S about as good as it gets...!!

Sooo...I rolled up my robe sleeves..
(remember, this is the first thing in the morning and I'd had NO breakfast.....YET...!! )
...coffee is ready and I'm about to have a cup while getting out all the baking paraphernalia ...

The first thing....
2 cups pecans, TOASTED for a few minutes.

This  brings out a flavor you can't get without toasting......
which just MAY be the reason for 5 STARS !!

...the cutest little measuring spoons, ever.
What could be cuter than heart shaped little spoons.

A good blogging friend, KATHLEEN, sent these to me in a package of bloggy love a few years ago.
THANKS AGAIN, KATHLEEN.....:)

This cute stacking bowl set came from WALMART a couple of years ago...
I've no idea if they still have them but, if you like them, you might look around the next time you are there.

To me, THAT much oatmeal means it's a HEALTHY BREAKFAST COOKIE....

(the recipe calles for RAISINS but we don't really like them...
I had some dried  CRANBERRIES that I SHOULD have used but
actually forgot them.

This little CHOPPER is vintage and it belonged to my mama.

I have an electric chopper...

but, somehow,
everything seems to taste better when I use something that belonged to MAMA.

I swear....
these are the BEST oatmeal cookies I've ever eaten.

Now, I know we all have different tastes....
but, if you like oatmeal cookies chock full of toasted pecans,
you will love these....

If making these cookies using THE BAREFOOT CONTESSA'S recipe
would only make me as pretty and soft spoken as she,
I would make a batch every single day.

O, I do know that there's probably no such thing as a HEALTHY cookie...
just.....
DELICIOUS ones.   :>)

and I LOVE having a PHOTO SHOOT with my cookies.

My Quilt of Many Colors

A replay of a favorite post....

Plezzzzzzzz let me say that
I am NOT a quilt maker in ANY sense of the word.
I don't even PRETEND that I know the first thing about
making QUILTS.
I don't even know how to sew and that's a fact !

I can sew a fairly straight line.....
but THAT IS IT...!!!

My mom was the BEST quilt maker, ever.
And, do you think I took the TIME back then, to
WATCH and LEARN ?
SHOOT NO !
bwaaaaaaaaaaa
I must have been crazy....

I was bound and determined to make at LEAST,
a simple
9 PATCH
and learned, in the process, that
COLOR...
PATTERN...
NEATNESS OF SEWING
plays an AWESOME role in the construction of a
SIMPLE QUILT and how it looks in the end.

COLOR and PATTERN of the fabric can make a simple quilt look FABULOUS
or a little on the dowdy-looking side.

I was looking for a CUTE fabric.
COLORFUL
INTERESTING
SOMEthing that would take my
PLAIN and SIMPLE QUILT
to another level....

If the fabric is awesome...
and cute..
and softly bright...
you can end up with a pretty cute quilt that you can be proud of....

and I have to say,
THIS one is my favorite of all the ones I've made.
....nothing fancy...
no design, really....
straight sewing, ALL THE WAY....
but I love it.

...I didn't want just the 'run of the mill'
SIMPLE 9 PATCH..
no sir....I WANTED CUTENESS...

"Your house is on fire and your children will burn...."

I had to have some kind of KILLER fabric..
a light, airy, FUN fabric.

hmmmmmmm??
DEBBIE MUM !
YES !
Sooo, I bought a few yards of HER fabric,
found some in the thrift bin at the fabric store.
Used a little of other fabrics I already had
and started
CUTTING SQUARES...
lots and lots of SQUARES.

I also learned that the BACK of a quilt is just almost
as pretty as the front.

All squares and puffy looking and....
sooo fluffy-cloud SOFT....just full of yummyness.....ummmmm

Now, you REAL QUILT MAKERS out there..

please don't look too closely.

It was HARD...HARD, I TELL YOU....
to get all those little tiny squares
all lined up with each other.
MERCY !!

You know, this has a light weight batting and yet it is so warm.
Mr. Sweet just loves sleeping under it..warm but not heavy.
*
Some 9 PATCH quilts have a SOLID square in the middle of each nine.
Some quilts are made with the SAME center color...
while others have a variety of solid colors.

I am so haphazard, I had about 5 million nine patches sewn together before
realizing that I might have liked a solid color in the middle.

Oh, well...I MIGHT (and I might NOT) make another someday
and I'll try to remember that solid square.

OOO..
and don't think, in all my
DEBBIE MUM
Quilt Love,
that I forgot to have something  YUMMY to serve you.

You know I YOU MORE THAN THAT...!!

POWDERED SUGAR DONUTS....

I love 'em so much, I wanna marry 'em...!!

So pretty served on my mother's vintage little plate.
XOXOXO
bj
