The Shelf that Mr. Sweet Built....

Some of you may remember that, one day as I was looking thru a new
MACKENZIE*CHILDS catalog,
I fell head over heels in love with this SHELF.....

OOO, I thought I couldn't LIVE without it....
have you ever fell that in love with an OBJECT...??
My dear sweet Mr. Sweet got right to work on doing a copy of this expensive shelf....

He absolutely OUTDID himself on this project....

I happen to think HIS copy is much better than the $1,000.00
Mackenzie-Childs original.

and, as in the photo on the right, it looked beautiful in our
entry way in the olden house we just moved out of....

In fact....since there's no entry way in this
pool/guest house,

I wondered if my treasured shelf would work as well here.

Sooo....it lay on the floor for a couple weeks until I decided just where
it would shine
like ART WORK should shine....

...does it SHINE here, in a corner of that huge bedroom....???

...I think it does...

and do you know how great it feels to be surrounded by things you love...?
by things that evoke memories that are priceless....?

He made the shelf....
he made the bench beneath the shelf...

I am blessed.

I love it here....

SOOO....the bookshelves that were in the living room...
the beautiful shelf that was in the entry way...
the vintage mantel that was in the dining room...
the black and white chairs that were in the living room....
are all
right at home in the new master bedroom...

is that cool or what !!! :>)

xoxo, bj

  1. Oh my what a beautiful shelf that Mr. Sweet made. Can I borrow him for about a month LOL. You are so lucky to have a husband that is so handy. My ex couldn't even boil water. It looks just like a MacKinzie Child's original. I have a few items that I am going to try my hand at painting the black/white checks.
Your home is certainly coming together great.
    Have a great week.

  4. You have done very well using the old house things in the new one. Yes, you definitely are blessed in many ways. No matter how well you like the new place, you lived in the old too long to just forget. It is good having memories. Take care.

  5. So glad you are getting to use some of your favorite things, BJ! It makes moving and down-sizing a bit easier. I get to visit the things we couldn't use when we down-sized over at my daughter's house now! : ) I love this shelf and I remember when you first showed it off. Your hubby did a great job on it, too.

  18. WOW! Your husband is so talented, bj! The McKenzie-Childs catalog always makes me drool as everything in it is so pretty, but the $$$$ everything costs puts me off. I'm glad your found the perfect spot for this beautiful shelf and all the other things your hubby has made for you!

  24. I'm tired... I went to the other blog, there was talk about this one... I had no idea you had two but I kind of missed your posts always so joyful and happy.
Your husband is an artist. A generous heart like his couldn't hold all so it turns into wondeful works of craftmanship. It's a wonderful - and again, happy - piece. So glad you found, for now, the place to enjoy it close by.
Many blessings to you and the Mr. in the new Home.

  27. BJ- Do you know your other blog is still up and you can access it? I was on it the other night and there were several showing to be viewing your blog at the same time. I think what ever issue you are having is you being able to access it. It is still live and readable. Suzanne

  31. It all looks just wonderful to me! It actually has a very "BJ" look about it, if that makes sense. I must like the BJ look because I've tried to copycat it more than once around here. I remember when he built that shelf. Loved it then. Love it now.
